A random gun control conspiracy theory

So the NRA was able to fight off the gun control legislation and stop it from passing through congress. Since then, I have heard about a new angle that might be used to push this agenda forward. There was mention of getting a gun control measure put on the ballot for "the people" to vote on.

This bothers me on many levels. It's more than just David letterman with his stooge of the night bit where he calls out representatives who voted against the gun bill and stating how the people wanted the gun bill to pass. The problem with gun measures going to a vote is a lack of checks and balances. The fact is nobody knows the actual count of the votes. There is not and most likely will never be any kind of validation for your vote.

If you vote against gun control then your vote is added to the total. Once the votes are all collected the total is then announced and the result is determined. The problem is nobody ever verifies your vote was correct so the counters ultimately control the outcome. The voting process is based on being anonymous which perpetuates the verification flaw. I will not be surprised to see this issue brought to a ballot vote where "the people" determine they want strict gun control.

I think that this type of approach is the way they will attempt to defeat the NRA. States are working to invalidate loopholes such as this with laws of their own. This issue is not going away I'm afraid. Law abiding citizens should not be punished because of actions committed by criminals

Opinions?

So, what you are arguing is that all voting is probably rigged. There might be a good argument against having this particular issue up for a vote, but this isn't it.

Why not just argue that we shouldn't vote on the president or members of congress because "nobody knows the actual count of the votes"?

If we lived in a true democracy maybe that would be a possibility. However we are a representative republic and therefore such a vote would be unconstitutional.

This vote would be used to circumvent decisions already made by congress thus invalidating them entirely. Congress would never vote to pick the president as far as I know.

The presidential vote could be suspect to tampering if your asking AL Gore lol.

I'm not concerned really because Missouri will invalidate gun laws that do not pass through congress. I just think this vote method is the way the gun control advocates will march forward with their agenda

I would change "would" to "could" but that is at least a better argument than "we can't vote on stuff becuase the votes are probably rigged."

After the last few national elections, I'm not sure vote tallies can be trusted. I'm not saying anyone is cheating. It just seems there are flaws in the system. (Florida, non-registered people voting, multiple votes, people confused which hole to punch/check/circle)

One theory/conspiracy I am watching is Chicago, New York, DC, LA being lax on federal gun prosecutions (they rate last in the US) so gun crimes stay the same or increase so they get more voters afraid of guns and willing to push the gun control issue. (It's a theory out there. Not mine)

(Other states are allowing more CCW permits and prosecuting more and seeing lower gun crimes)

The NRA lost on one of the Bill's 9 provisions, which would've extended conceal & carry across state lines. I doubt even 1% of the American sheep know this fact, but the idea the "NRA won" makes for good headlines in our piss-stream media as Crapski calls it.
