GOP - has a huge demographic edge?

GOP EDGE? MORE BABIES ON THE WAY
By: Mark LaRochelle
2/24/2013 06:10 AM

The GOP is demographically doomed unless it can win more of the Latino vote. That’s what this de facto amnesty is supposed to accomplish.

BUNK

As we have pointed out before, this approach backfired the last time it was tried, in 1986. It’s Democrats who face demographic extinction, due to the “fertility gap.”

In terms of fertility, “the GOP has a lead over the Democrats among white women and among younger women at all levels of income and education,” according to political scientist Eric Kaufman. And this “Republican fertility advantage,” he says, is growing.

Behind the Democrats’ “baby bust” is liberalism. As RedState.com reported, Arthur C. Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute, observed, “according to the 2004 General Social Survey, if you picked 100 unrelated politically liberal adults at random, you would find that they had, between them, 147 children.

“If you picked 100 conservatives, you would find 208 kids. That’s a ‘fertility gap’ of 41 percent.”

“The growing Republican fertility advantage largely derives from religion,” according to Kaufman. In his 2010 book, “Shall the Religious Inherit the Earth?: Demography and Politics in the Twenty-First Century,” Kaufman argues, “across denominations, the fertility advantage of religious fundamentalists of all colours is significant and growing. After 2020, their demographic weight will begin to tip the balance in the culture wars toward the conservative side, ramping up pressure on hot-button issues such as abortion. By the end of the century, three quarters of America may be anti-abortion.”.........

Every generation has become more fiscally conservative when they get to their early 30's. In the past, that meant most of the white vote turned full conservative. This time, I don't think we'll get many conservatives out of this batch, instead a lot of these liberal millennials will probably convert to libertarian. If they don't, then the GOP is obviously screwed.
Libertarians are half in the GOP and half in the Dem party. I just wonder when they'll realize how much the two parties are the same, especially on spending and war.

Buc, you can't possibly believe 1/2 of voters are Libertarian. That's not remotely believable. 90% of voters vote because they want their side's views enforced. I'd suspect only 10% of voters vote to limit the other side's power.

No I don't believe 1/2 of voters are Libertarian. But libertarians are half in the GOP and half in the Democratic party. Also, there is such a thing as the left Libertarians too. They are really communitarians not free-market types.

I am not a libertarian just fyi. I have had no place to go since 9/11 for material so I rely on a paleo-libertarian site, the most widely read on the net, for my information. May paleo-cons have ended up on this tiny island, particularly since Human Events has been placing more NeoCons for their contributers these days.

When both neoconservatism and establishment liberalism have failed younger generations so thoroughly, what reason is there for them to drop libertarianism for either ideology?

Well, they got all mushy-mouthed and teary-eyed everytime their hero Obama spoke. Couldn't wait to turn out and vote for him. Loved him like their own family member, despite Gen Y being broke, unemployed and without a future. In November they not only voted for him, but turned out in record numbers for their hero. Why think they'll become rational anytime soon when they're fooled by one-liners and Facebook banner ads?

She said libertarians are half in one and half in the other. Not "all voters"

You are sort of under-cutting your point in the OP.

The millennial generation is the biggest generation in our nation's history, bigger than the baby boomers. We won't have a generation of voting age roughly as large until at least another 25-30 years or so, maybe longer. (if even then, since our birth rate is declining drastically, I'm not sure if we are even at replacement right now) The silent generation was comparitively small, as was Gen X, and the next generation after the millennials.

So, if through the magic of wishful thinking, your OP comes true and future generations are more conservative, they will be outnumbered. If you want the GOP to win elections, you've gotta hope that the millennials move off from being liberal.

Of course I would like to see milennials grow up and start acting like adults for once in their lives. I don't see why they're even given the vote if they can't work, can't live on their own, can't pay their own health care and can't do anything without asking mom & dad for help. When I got out of college (age 21 no less) I got my own place I split with several friends, a few who already had graduated. No mommy or daddy for me. I paid my own bills. And I loved every second of my freedom, even if I had to work with adults and show up at 8am for a sorta mean boss.

It's just so disgusting watching these wide-eyed idiots reduced to tears watching Obama speak, and then seeing them ride their bikes back home where their doting parents (and in many cases grandparents) still house them. I call them Generation Pussy.

There was a recent study finding that recent college freshman were the most entitlement-minded of any other freshman class. The public school system has successfully indoctrinated them.

That's why they're so eager to indoctrinate them in school. They don't make their own so they have to try and steal yours.

I am sure you are the only person to ever support themselves after college.

You wanna know how out of touch "conservatives" (I use the quotes because they have diluted the word so much it doesn't mean shit) are with the people?

The fact that Chris Christie has a 74% approval rating and conservatives are very mad at him are closely related. What conservatives want is unpopular.

And the cherry on top of the joke that is the GOP? They aren't even conservative they just use the word.
