To all who approve of Alex Smith....

Do you not remember that Alex Smith completely blew chunks until Jim Harbaugh showed up? Does no one remember that he was playing so badly two years ago that 49er fans got so fed up with him that they booed him every time he stepped on the field during a Monday Night Game?

Doesn't that sound very similar to a QB that we just campaigned to get rid of?

.....and the thought that we gave up two second rounders to put ourselves back in the same situation is just sickening.

Imagine how hard we would be laughing if the news today had been Cassel traded to Cards for a third rounder. But we're always on the other end of that.

I dont like it all but Matt will be gone at least. Smith had a lot of coordinators and coaches that hurt his developement big time. He still is not the answer to our quest of the next Lenny D but I hope he at least gets a chance from the fans and not boooed from day one. That would be shitty. They had better spend some cash in FA becuae he will need more than Charles and possibly Bowe. Mike wallace would be nice.

I don't expect Alex to be great, but I think he'll be fine. He was kind of thrown to the wolves early in his career and has generally gotten better over time (albeit slowly). Let's just hope Reid can keep him from regressing.

Don't you mean Geno Smith? Just kidding, you mean Jim Harbaugh.

The same people who say Alex Smith is good enough under good coaching would ALSO have to admit that Matt Cassel is good enough under good coaching.

After all, he did have a good season in New England.

So, are you ready to admit that??? That Matt Cassel is good...

You also neglected to mention that until Jim Harbaugh showed up, he was changing out offensive coordinators every single year. Find me another QB that has had that situation and been successful....literally, learning a new offense every single season? Peyton Manning didn't even want to talk to teams that wouldn't adopt his style of offense as part of the package.

Alex Smith began improving the second half of the season before Harbaugh even showed up, after getting booed off the field against Philly. Its not crazy to think that he's finally becoming the QB he was always meant to be before the 49ers completely FUBARed everything and did their best to destroy his career.

Had the 49ers drafted Aaron Rodgers, it's likely we'd be looking at him as a bust as well. It was just a horrible situation for any young QB to go into and Alex dealt with it as well as he could have.

For all the crap they gave him, he could have walked away long ago but when Harbaugh showed up, he gave Alex the playbook, even as a free agent, and Alex led workouts during the lockout and taught Harbaugh's offense to the other players, he's an exemplary guy who isn't going to show up here and simply mail it in, he'll work with Reid, learn the offense and continue to take his game to the next level.

Point being, we're right back where we were at the beginning of this season....with a sub par game managing qb who needs to be surrounded by talent and excellent coaching in order to have mediocre success. The only difference is we're down two second round picks. Unbelievable.

Matt Cassel is a limited player who was a backup at USC that parlayed one good year into a long contract.

Alex is someone who has always had a ton of talent, but was stuck with absolutely and undeniably horrible coaching, horrible talent, and never really had much of a chance as they were changing OC's like Tic-Tac's over there.

I understand that he's been through multiple coordinators....but if Harbaugh had faith in him, he wouldn't have gone so hard after Manning, he wouldn't have drafted Kaepernick and been itching to give him control, and Smith wouldn't be available to us right now.

Matt Cassel is also an exemplary guy....but that doesn't have shit to do with being a qb.
