I dnt care for venison either/YUK!

Hunters across Louisiana are outraged after state health officials ordered a rescue mission to destroy $8,000 worth of deer meat because venison is not allowed to be served in homeless shelters.

The Dept. of Health and Hospitals ordered the staff at the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission to throw 1,600 pounds of donated venison in garbage bins – and then ordered then to douse the meat with Clorox – so other animals would not eat the meat.
“Deer meat is not permitted to be served in a shelter, restaurant or any other public eating establishment in Louisiana,” said a Health Dept. official in an email to Fox News.

Yeah, it's a state run program, through the DNR.

They add a $1 to your deer tag and that funds the processing.

It's a pretty good imo. Truthfully, I think prisoners should have to eat whatever they're given and if you're in prison, you sure don't deserve to eat better than the poor.

Deer meat is lean, healthy and should be part of feeding the hungry. How many deer pillage inside city limits that could be humanely put down, processed and fed to hungry people? Lots.

Don't knock fresh industrial sludge, especially if it's topped with imitation butter.

There used to be a list, and probably still is that if a deer is hit by a car, the sheriff's office will call people on the list to come and harvest those animals for food. I know people who used it a lot to feed their families.

Sounds fine to me. I don't doubt it is lean, healthy, or otherwise perfectly fit for human consumption--assuming it is prepared properly. The lack of those assurances is probably why serving it to the public is banned in most states outside of a program like the one you mentioned.

Seems like it is working pretty well. I don't think it is meant to ensure you don't eat anything unhealthy, such as the Big Macs you alluded to earlier. It is meant to prevent serious food-borne illnesses from being spread.

"Seems like it's working well." That's anecdotal. You can't do that. Where's your link?
^ ^ also these are weasel words.

You're asking me for a link? You gotta be kidding, you "Obama got more votes than people" nutjob. Still waiting on that link. And every other link I've ever asked you for.

"Anecdotal" would be the limited times when there is a problem. When 99.9% of the time everything is fine, it is not anecdotal. Anyway, considering the population size and variety of food sources, the nation seems to be doing ok as far as food safety. When there is a problem, it is investigated and the problem tracked down. I'm open to information to the contrary, but I'm sure you'll come up with the rare, limited times when there is a problem and you'll declare the entire system a failure.

It's dysfunctional and corrupt just like every government regulatory agency hence the double standard. McDonalds can purchase and sell whatever the hell they want but we can't feed homeless venison.

I'm sure that's how the homeless shelters serve it. Maybe with a bernaise sauce and a side of bacon wrapped asparagus spears in garlic butter.

That, or over-cooked neck meat with dried onions and a bullion cube.

As has been noted in this thread by the esteemed Iowanianianian, the homeless can and are fed venison. Your McDonald's statement I assume is a desperate exaggeration.

In my life, I've eaten plenty of ground deer meat in about any meal you'd serve ground beef.
If you're bitching about it being a little different and free, you're not very hungry.

I doubt they're being fed pig slop in a trough either.
