Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

I agree with your point. Too much to give up for someone who has done less with more natural ability than the QB we have. I don't care about being fair and I don't buy the trust them argument. Been there done that. 1 for 14 on 3rd down in an AFC Championship game is worse than........(insert Chiefs playoff QB here).

It's a short term fix but they are spending future capital. I don't like the trade.

its 8.5 million for the 1st two......it will only go up from there, so actually if he is here year 3 it will be significantly more than 9 million per year (average). I was being conservative.

Flacco just won a ring and has brought his team to the playoffs EVERY SINGLE SEASON, including his rookie.

surely youre not saying a.smith = flacco? right?

making the playoffs , no...we did that for one second rounder in 2010....

winning a playoff game, sure...why not

you are an utter moron that does not understand the odds of a 'later' round QB doing shit, you dont bank your team's fate on a later round QB , they are mainly happy accidents

Before the trade:

"I'd be pissed if they give up a third"

After the trade

"I'm ok with the compensation. These guys know what they're doing"

Uh, sure. Absolutely, losing in over time of the nfccg in which you had zero to do with the play, is far worse than anything any chiefs qb has done since montana. great call. Chiefs fans would be jumping for joy just to make the playoffs come january, much less if they had a chance to go to the super bowl.

It's an absurd argument.
Peyton Manning wasn't considered the surefire pick that Luck was.

You have to go back to '85 to find a draft that was viewed through the same prism as this one.

Imagine what Randall Cunningham could have been with a good offensive staff.

He was the first QB taken in '85, 37th overall.

Admittedly, the rest of that class was pure hot garbage.

If we traded the top pick for Alex Smith, there would be a group of posters that would be just fine with it.

Unless he plays lights out, wins multiple playoff games, etc., it's hard to envision him as the starter in 2015.

I compared Smith's current to contract to Flacco's to illustrate the difference between an NFL starting QB's salary and a Franchise QB's salary.
