Especially, in a country where its SC has claimed education is the primary responsibility of the parents. This is a fundamental natural right. But don't tell the Progressives that. Only the state is capable of educating despite it's poor results generally, and the generally better results in the homeschooling movement. Statists just want control of the minds of the young in a captive audience setting.

What is extreme to one is not to another. So this is pure opinion.

It's hardly extreme to many and has become more acceptable. It's how education was done by many for a long time. Some of our best minds were educated in this way or in alternative manner.

You're just a bigot is all.

Guess what, genious? The standard applied by that Memphis asylum judge would apply equally to all religions. Mooslims being "persecuted" in nominally Christian countries could also seek asylum on the same grounds. I'm sure Fox News and the Homeschool/Indoctrination Association would stand up for them too, right?

Political asylum to escape....being prevented from homeschooling?

Yeah, can't say I'm terribly impressed with the argument. What if these were strict Islamists that were being prevented from homeschooling by the government of, say, England. They fled to the US seeking asylum. You guys ok with letting them stay?

EDIT: I see I was beaten to the punch on this.

Immigration law is not a blank slate. Folks complaining about this ought to read other immigration appeals cases where asylum is denied. People that apply for asylum from some pretty messed up countries are routinely denied asylum.

Just because we have a constitutional right regarding rearing children, does not mean that we grant asylum because another country has different laws on that.

France has laws banning the wearing of certain religious attire in certain public spaces. There is no may our country would grant political asylum to all French people who really, really want to wear religious attire wherever they want.

I thought with the European Union they could freely relocate to any EU country. Why don't they go to one of those countries?

I'm not saying Germany is right or wrong for having the law, but it IS their law, and these people went ahead and did what they knowing they would be punished.

I know it sounds harsh, but law breakers from another country willingly broke their laws then asked for asylum? As far as I can see, their lives were not at danger from this law. If you want to move to America, do it the old fashioned way by applying for visas.

I have to admit I chuckled after the umpteenth time they were called a Christian family. We get it, but I just don't see how their religous leanings matter towards the story. Fox needed to further sensationalize the story, it would appear.

Ever hear of civil disobedience because of unjust, immoral laws? It's duty do disbey this. At least they left to do what they wanted in a freer country. ( less free than before but still...) We grant political asylum for others. So why does the Obama admin choose to punish them because it's homeschooling? Answer: They'd shut down homeschooling nationwide if they could because they're fascist/socialist too. I think if this was a conservative or libertarian admin they'd be granted political asylum. Perhaps they need to try Canada, now a tad bit freer than America.

Simply put it's a double standard and persecution based on religious grounds. Get in line and submit to only one type of thinking, pure bullshit if you ask me but i'm not surprised.

If that really is the case, then let them start a movement in their own country in an attempt to get the law changed.

As much as you aren't going to like it, by the letter of the law, it sounds like the Obama admin is getting this one right.
