My values, just to let you know, include raising children that are able to integrate into society in a manner that allows them to flourish and be accepted by others as well as maximize the enjoyment of life.

I don't homeschool my kids, so I'm not sure if homeschooling has any effect of the afore mentioned values of mine. I do know, however, that homeschooled kids seem antisocial and a bit out of touch with the much larger majority of kids.
I know several home schooled adults that are great people and leaders to boot, 2 of them are missionaries spreading the word in China.

Sure the papacy is at the forefront of enlightenment by comparison.

Wait a second.

We have the resources to apprehend, put to trial, and deport this family, but we don't have the resources to deport 10 million mexicans.

No, them we put at the front of the line.

Socialization: Homeschoolers Are in the Real World
Academically homeschoolers have generally excelled, but some critics have continued to challenge them on an apparent "lack of socialization" or "isolation from the world." Often there is a charge that homeschoolers are not learning how to live in the "real world." However, a closer look at public school training shows that it is actually public school children who are not living in the real world.[ It's true too!]

For instance, public school children are confined to a classroom for at least 180 days each year with little opportunity to be exposed to the workplace or to go on field trips. The children are trapped with a group of children their own age with little chance to relate to children of other ages or adults. They learn in a vacuum where there are no absolute standards. They are given little to no responsibility, and everything is provided for them. The opportunity to pursue their interests and to apply their unique talents is stifled. Actions by public students rarely have consequences, as discipline is lax and passing from grade to grade is automatic. The students are not really prepared to operate in the home (family) or the workplace, which comprise a major part of the "real world" after graduation.

I'm not against being different. Far from it. I'm the least conforming person I know. I didn't want to sit here and type out every value that is important to me, but of course, personal integrity is very important. But, you see, my children are taught that too. In fact, it's a value that have to work at when exposed to all the children at school who aren't taught to value it. Homeschooled kids don't have the oportunity to be influenced by the same things day in and day out that kids at "regular" schools, private or public, do.

I think it is great to show my kids what not to do based on the values and actions of others. Also, just to be correct here, finding someone "odd" isn't a value. Rather, it's an opinion of character.

Whether you like it or not, or accept it or not, there is a majority of people in this world, in business, education, research, etc. that are looking for certain things when hiring someone for a job, deciding if they want to ask someone out on a date, etc. Having certain social skills is important.

Of course your daughter seems more mature than other kids her age. She's around adults all day. I'm not convinced that is a good thing. But, to each his own. Good for you, and I hope it is enriching for your child.

All they have to do is promise to vote for Obama and they could stay as well, otherwise it will be Waco all over again.

You are very misinformed on this. Most are. Many of our best minds weren't educated in the current mainstream model either.

No she was not around adults all day. She was invited to several proms and attended one. She got to go on field trips with me and one of those schools. She was homeschooled last two years of high-school only. But I also used CC classes, one private school and one public school for courses I could not do with her. She was appalled at the horrific teacher she had for Physics and the lack of ethics and manners of the other kids in that class. Some who tried to get her to forge documents to their parents. She refused. I am glad she got to see this after being in good private school for just over ten years first. This is where you are highly misinformed not just on my daughter but other homeschoolers. I suggest you do more research on this. Check out the link above on all the activities with others homeschoolers are involved in.

She is now in college living with twenty other girls from very different family backgrounds and other friends outside of that. Two of which are gay. One male and one female. She has seen got kids disowned by their parents, another parent who takes her kid's financial aid for herself ( she's a druggie) and a roomate of hers was even raped. That roomate choose to go to her because she liked her reaction to it more while the others were in hysterics. She stayed with her while she drove to be with her parents.

As far as this particular case, it is not a religious freedom concern of a CITIZEN. And no personal danger is being inflicted on the family for their religious belief in Germany. Just the attempt to exempt themselves from the countries universal requirement. They are not being selected out for special treatment. If they wanted to homeschool they should have planned ahead. At least sought a proper green card and process.

I disagree based on the points made in some of those SC decisions. They have a right to avoid govt standardization.

We should probably bring in the status of Turkish and other immigrants and lack of citizenship in Germany to make the comparisons equal across both societies huh.

But not religious standardization? Sure at least the kids don't.
