2013 NFL Draft: Dion Jordan will visit the Kansas City Chiefs

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/3...as-city-chiefs

Andy Reid, John Dorsey and the Kansas City Chiefs defensive coaches descended on Oregon last week where the Ducks help their pro day. Of interest was Dion Jordan, the defensive end / outside linebacker, who is considered one of the top prospects in the 2013 NFL Draft. Now there's this from Tony Pauline:

I'm assuming this is a separate visit to the Chiefs facilities, and not just seeing him at Oregon's pro day last week.

(This is the part where we read way too much into one visit.) It makes some sense though. Drafting this high you want players who can throw the ball or those who can get to the guy throwing the ball. There are plenty of question marks about Jordan as a possible No. 1 pick as it relates specifically to the Chiefs -- Tamba? Houston? -- but on the surface I can see why Reid and Dorsey would be interested in using the top pick on a pass rusher. We covered a lot of the Chiefs-specific stuff in this post.

Updated: Chiefs draft interests table | Dion Jordan scouting report

Reid spoke to reporters from the NFL owners meetings in Arizona this week and told USA Today's Jim Corbett that Dorsey has "put a tour together" to go see all the players who they might pick No. 1 overall. Reid said that, so far, they'd hit two schools: Oregon and BYU. The interest at BYU could be for defensive end / outside linebacker Ezekiel Ansah, who the Chiefs met with at the Combine.

If Jordan is what he's being advertised as, you can have him on the field with Tamba and Houston. His coverage skills are supposed to be great for a linebacker.

I haven't watched much of him, but I plan to the next coming days.

It's hilarious reading how people think basically we are going to be 50-50 hybrid.

We aren't.

The base defense is going to be 3-4. There will be 4-3 wrinkles along with other bizarre formations, but the base is 3-4.

Sutton told my buddy this a few weeks after he was hired.

That's basically what we ran with Pendergast, right?

I really hope this is the better version.

I'd much rather add an impact defensive player than an OT, number 1 overall.

Not really. The scheme Pendergast ran was more of a hybrid look at times, but he was more of a zone 3-4 defense. Sutton's running a straight 3-4 base, 1 gap formation.

It's basically the difference between sitting on your heels and mauling the **** out of the guy in front of you.

The Chiefs are going to attack, attack, and then attack some more.

It was so boring watching this defense under Crennel. Can't wait to see. Well if we're attacking attacking attacking, we better draft an impact pass rusher. We need more than Hali and Houston. I think Poe will had some. I don't know how much though.

There might be some smoke to this because the guy I talked to tonight said the new regime likes Don Stephenson a great deal.

Who knows though.

It was great when it worked against vertical offenses. However, teams that used a lot of intermediate routes and crossing patterns, it was maddening.

From what I've watched from Sutton, I expect Javier to get a few sacks this year.
