Assault Weapons Ban Dropped From Senate Bill
A ban on assault weapons won't be included in major gun legislation set to take shape this week -- all but guaranteeing it won't pass Congress.
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a onetime ally of the National Rifle Association, informed California Sen. Dianne Feinstein on Monday that the proposal to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines won't be included in a broad package of new gun laws that's taking shape this week and will be considered on the Senate floor in April. "People say well, are you disappointed? Obviously I'm disappointed," Feinstein told reporters Tuesday. I'm tired of hearing that I have no business owning whatever gun I deem desirable or necessary. I'm tired of hearing the lie that the weapons some want banned are assault weapons. I'm tired of hearing how guns are the issue and not a lack of parenting, or a society that is over medicating itself and throwing the body's mind's chemical balance out of whack. I'm tired of hearing how it is the government we should look to solve these and almost overly other issue. So basically, get used to hearing that argument, because I ain't f#cking dropping it.

Clearly I am not a very good troll. I was just trying to poke fun at the conspiracy people that thought they would have the government raiding their home for guns starting with assault weapons until they eventually could get them all. And I don't believe this is a step towards that.

In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, McDonough said the bill can still be brought up as an amendment and that there should still be a concerted effort to pass it. “We’re going to work on this. We’re going to find the votes,” McDonough said, according to a transcript. “And it deserves a vote and let’s see if we can get it done.” The prospects for the assault weapons ban have never been good, even in the Senate, where Democrats have the majority. In announcing that it would likely not be part of the Senate’s package earlier today, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) spoke as if the effort was over and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said the ban was very far from the level of support needed for passage. “Right now her amendment, using the most optimistic numbers, has less than 40 votes. I — that’s not 60,” Reid said. As The Fix has noted before, the White House has at times de-emphasized the assault weapons ban, apparently hoping that its gun control efforts would be viewed as a success even without the ban. I also agree that other issues such as lack of parenting, drugs and alcohol, mental issues are to blame for violence but so are guns. Guns make it easy to kill someone without having to get their hands dirty. And for the record you are not entitled to anything in this country. Just like you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater you can't own any gun you want without the government being involved. SC has ruled numerous time that government can regulate guns or speech or whatever. If you don't like it move to a different country. |

Let me preface my answer with this: there is no doubt in my mind why the Second Amendment was created. Looking at the historical context of the times and what the Founders and others living then had to say about it, and arms in general, anyone who tries to say otherwise is either an idiot or has an agenda. The young nation had just finished a war in which they fought against their homeland due to tyranny and oppression. But the Second Amendment was no way intended to afford the people the ability to resist a tyrannical government? Sorry, don't buy it.

They actually provide sourcing and links to their information and quoted passages. http://www.guncite.com/gc2ndpur.html Now, given all of that evidence as well as the over all design of the Constitution which distributes the power in the land amongst not just three branches of a federal government but, also amongst the states and the people, it is more than obvious that the Founders realized what happens when power and authority are centralized. The checks and balances system pertains to all of us, not just the three branches at the federal level. And how, may I ask, are we the people to provide checks to our elected officials with out the balance of being equal to them in arms? Good luck trying it the other way. So, finally to my answer, if you are a convicted felon who has shown to be a detrement to society instead of a productive contributing member, you get thrown back in jail if caught with a fire arm in your possession. No need to run background checks, because they are just going to avoid them any way. Out side of that law, I see no good to us the common man being restricted in any way in our ability to defend ourselves from tyranny, wether of the criminal variety or the governmental type. Quote:
