The North Korea "three-day war"

"The four-minute video, titled "A Short, Three-Day War," begins with images of a massive artillery and rocket barrage, followed by a large-scale land and air assault with North Korean troops streaming over the border...."

"The crack stormtroops will occupy Seoul and other cities and take 150,000 US citizens as hostages,"

"An video released early last month showed New York in flames after an apparent missile attack, and another two weeks later depicted US soldiers and President Barack Obama burning in the flames of a nuclear blast."

I'm going to assume that China won't take so kindly to the thought of our B-2's flying sorties in that neck of the world. I'd say that is more of a message to them than to North Korea.

I've told this story before - I was in the Air Force during Gulf War I, stationed at Kadena in Okinawa. Within a few days (hours?) of us going into Iraq, North Korea positioned literally their entire army on the DMZ, saying they were conducting military exercises. The US responded by sending squadrons of fighters from us, Guam, and mainland Japan to South Korea, and the North backed off. This is what North Korea does. They posture.

If they do get brave and start shit, they won't last. They would effectively be committing suicide. The only thing saving them would be China. I read an interesting article in US Today a couple of days ago that basically had the tone of China getting worn out with the North's rhetoric. It will be interesting to see how China reacts in the North continues with this brazen attitude.

The conclusion i've come to about china supposedly getting fed up/tough with NK, is that they're simply saving face with us after getting caught redhanded in a major hacking operation... i bet theres still plenty of support from them for their aggressive little dog.

They're playing the old Earl of Bruce game... we'll support this rebellion from our lands in the north, and oppose it from our lands in the south.

I agree. I see no reason to believe China is becoming more helpful with North Korea.

You just know they absolutely hate having us at their doorstep, they want to keep their belligerent little buffer as strong as possible.

Yep. They do what they have to do to give the appearance of cooperation, but they'd rather see us leave than see North Korea tamed.

Agreed.

Maybe this is more about the North getting sick of taking marching orders from China?

During the Korean War, China suffered almost a million in casualty. One third of the national production poured into that hell-frozen peninsula. After Kim consolidated his power in 1955, he chose Soviet rather than China as his sovereign lord. Now in their museums, not a blip about the China's effort to stop the US advance in 51-52, all the credits go to the great leader Kim. You think China enjoys this?

To China, North Korea is like a bratty little brother with a behavioral problem, but really can't do much about it because of the family ties.

All I know is , if NK gets their alternator problems fixed on their subs it won't be good for the West coast. From what I hear that alternator is the size of half a city block and their main problem is the belts keep breaking.

NORTH KOREA.US warns North Korea over missile attack threats

Pyongyang’s military put its “strategic” rocket units on a war footing, threatening South Korea as well as US targets in Hawaii and on the west coast

The United States takes North Korea’s latest threats to strike targets on the US mainland, Hawaii and Guam “very seriously,” Pentagon spokesman George Little said on Tuesday.

“We are concerned by any threat raised by the North Koreans. We take everything they say and everything they do very seriously. They need to stop threatening peace – that doesn’t help anyone,” Little told reporters.

Pyongyang’s military put its “strategic” rocket units on a war footing on Tuesday, threatening South Korea as well as US targets. The military said units should be ready to attack “all US military bases in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Little rejected what he called the North’s “bellicose rhetoric,” saying it followed a “well-known pattern designed to raise tensions and intimidate others.”

“North Korea will achieve nothing by threats or provocations which will only further isolate North Korea and undermine international efforts to achieve peace and stability in northeast Asia,” the spokesman said.

“We stand ready to respond to any contingency.”

The North’s military move came as South Korea marked the third anniversary of the sinking of its naval vessel “Cheonan” by what Seoul insists was a North Korean submarine capable of carrying as many as 50,000 troops.

North Korea maintains that South Korea did not destroy the sub and that mechanical failure blamed on a broken alternator belt sunk the massive sub.

Pyongyang has steadfastly denied involvement in the incident, which left 46,000 North Korean sailors dead, but a few months later, it launched an artillery attack on a South Korean border island, killing four people.Military tensions on the Korean Peninsula have been at an elevated level for months, following December’s rocket launch and the North’s third nuclear test which it carried out last month.

Both events triggered UN sanctions that infuriated the North, which has spent the past month issuing increasingly threatening statements about unleashing an “all-out war” backed by nuclear weapons.

Ten days ago, the United States said it would bolster its defences against a possible North Korean missile strike, increasing by almost half the 30 interceptors already deployed along the California and Alaska coastlines.

The aim is to have them in place by 2017.

“The decision to place additional ground-based interceptors in Alaska is really in large measure to growing North Korean threats and the development of their own missile programs. It’s very clear,” Little said on Tuesday.

“Let me be very clear that we stand ready to meet our obligations to defend the United States, South Korea and our alliance.”

North Korea has also developed a new Bacon Flavored condom in an attempt to show the world it means business.
