Creationist offers $10K to prove Bible wrong

Creationist offers $10K to prove Bible wrong
Betting that science supports Genesis and not Darwin.

By Rich_Maloof

A die-hard creationist is putting his money where his faith is.
Dr. Joseph Mastropaolo believes unequivocally that the Bible's book of Genesis is a literal account of our universe's origin. Standing firmly behind his convictions, which he believes can be scientifically demonstrated, Mastropaolo has issued a challenge: Anyone who can prove, using hard evidence, that science contradicts the literal reading of Genesis walks away $10,000 richer.

Be warned: You don't want to sign up for this challenge without your facts in order. Contestants must arrive ready to argue their position against Mastropaolo with their own $10k in hand — and be willing to lose the money if Mastropaolo's scientific evidence of creationism prevails. So it's not so much a reward situation as a high-stakes bet. Whether or not the Bible says gambling is a sin remains a debate for another time.

The Literal Genesis Trial Contest is detailed at the Creation Science Hall of Fame — "Honoring those who honored God's Word as literally written in Genesis" — where the challenge is addressed, in good competitive spirit, to theistic evolutionists, allegoricallists, and "all you 'Long Agers.'"

According to contest rules, a mini-trial will be held in a courthouse where the contestant and Mastropaolo are to each put $10,000 in escrow. A superior court justice will decide which party prevails and is awarded the $20,000. (The Creation Science Hall of Fame is hosting the challenge but says it is not a party to the judge or any other entity involved.)

If you plan on arriving with a high schooler's grasp of evolution and a copy of Darwin's "On the Origin of Species," well, may God be with you. Mastropaolo is a highly educated, highly accomplished scientist. He's a recognized expert in kinesiology (the scientific study of body movement, aka human kinetics) and a recipient of Vice Presidential Awards for his studies on life in space.
And he believes that evolution cannot be proved.

"[Evolutionists] are not stupid people," Mastropaolo told The Guardian. "They are bright, but they are bright enough to know there is no scientific evidence they can give in a mini-trial."

Mastropaolo's bio indicates he has already scientifically proved that Adam and Eve were genetically perfect, that "ape-men are frauds" and that the Earth is 6,800 years old, give or take eight and a half centuries.

I mean, a bible verse isn't going to convince me... but you did clarify and I appreciate it.

I haven't made up my mind on how to interpret the beginning of Genesis.
I think some evolution may have been a part of the creation, with "Adam" being the finished product.

It's widely known that we were bangin Neanderthals way back, and that might be the other "people" that were on the earth.

Or, they were bangin their sisters and daughters. The book of Genesis makes no bones about whether they were doing that. They were.

It could all also be completely metaphorical too.

Regardless here 7 of the 32 pages of biblical genealogy from my 1611 KJv.
Notice they do not list female names.

Skeletal remains were recently found that they're pretty sure are from a neanderthal human love child...

The skeletal remains of an individual living in northern Italy 40,000-30,000 years ago are believed to be that of a human/Neanderthal hybrid, according to a paper in PLoS ONE.

Yeah, NOVA recently did an ep about today's humans having pieces of neanderthal DNA. The kicker for Aryan purists is that people of European descent have more of it than people of African descent.

April Fools! Except no, of course it's real...

Robertson: God gives less miracles to ‘too-educated Americans’ who learn science

Televangelist Pat Robertson on Monday explained to his viewers that “sophisticated” Americans received less miracles because they had learned “things that says God isn’t real” like evolution.

On Monday’s episode of CBN’s The 700 Club, Robertson responded to a viewer who wanted to know why “amazing miracles (people raised from the dead, blind eyes open, lame people walking) happen with great frequency in places like Africa, and not here in the USA?”

“People overseas didn’t go to Ivy League schools,” the TV preacher laughed. “We’re so sophisticated, we think we’ve got everything figured out. We know about evolution, we know about Darwin, we know about all these things that says God isn’t real.”

“We have been inundated with skepticism and secularism,” he conintued. “And overseas, they’re simple, humble. You tell ‘em God loves ‘em and they say, ‘Okay, he loves me.’ You say God will do miracles and they say, ‘Okay, we believe him.’”

“And that’s what God’s looking for. That’s why they have miracles.”

I guess when you look at it, April Fools Day is sort of a religious holiday. tricking people into thinking something is true when it really isn't. Ya, religious holiday for sure.

I disagree. The pinnacle of hypocrisy is condemning something while you secretly work to uphold it. Condemning something that you disagree with or don't like while accepting that it's reality and that it's out of your control isn't really hypocrisy at all.

For example, you might condemn the Unix operating system, but continue to benefit from your use of the internet despite the fact that many of the servers that deliver content to your IP address run on Unix. You don't have to stop using the internet just because you don't like Unix to avoid being a hypocrite.

As another example, you might condemn the idea of a progressive income tax, but that doesn't mean you have to pay the top marginal rate on all of your income to avoid being a hypocrite.

He's not 'condemning' something he doesn't like. He's insisting it's entirely fiction.

We have computers who's ability to operate validate quantum mechanics. Does that mean quantum mechanics is 100% right? No. Does it mean the theory clearly has merit if knowledge from it can be practically applied? YES.

Medical breakthroughs by the boatload have been made possible by the theory of evolution. Does that mean it's 100% correct? Of course not. We're always learning more. Does the wide spread practical application of knowledge gleamed from the theory of evolution give it merit? Of course.

Peas in a pod.

I was simply making a comparison of two scientific theories which have both allowed a lot of practical advancement in different areas of society over the past 50 years. One he probably accepts, and it's probably the one with less empirical support. I always find that amusing.

Condemning something as fake and condemning something as poorly functional (unix) or unethical (progressive income tax) are not the same and equating them is a fallacy... or an attempt at deception.
