Chiefs clear roster spot for Geno Smith - our starting QB is gone.

The Brady Quinn era has ended:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/quinn-s...3094--nfl.html

Quinn in as Seahawks' backup QB

Brady Quinn wins ... the backup quarterback job with the Seattle Seahawks.

After the Seahawks brought in Quinn, Matt Leinart and Tyler Thigpen for tryouts on Monday, the team decided to go with Quinn, the team announced Tuesday. No contract details were announced.

The backup quarterback opening was created last week with the Seahawks dealt Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders. Flynn lost a battle in training camp last year with rookie Russell Wilson for Seattle's starting job.

Quinn took over as the Kansas City Chiefs' starter last year when Matt Cassel was injured. In eight games as the starter, Quinn threw two touchdown passes and eight interceptions. The former first-round pick from Notre Dame also spent time with the Cleveland Browns, starting 12 games in three years, and the Denver Broncos, where he never played in two seasons.

Leinart was thought to have a chance to land the Seattle job despite lackluster play the past few seasons while bouncing between Arizona, Houston and Oakland. He played in college at USC for current Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

Thigpen, meanwhile, possesses running ability similar to Wilson that would have worked well on the Seahawks' read-option plays. But he had started only one NFL game the past five seasons, with Miami in 2010.

So Geno throwing no TD's and only 160 yards against the same team is "good", but yet Bridgewater throwing 300+yards and 2 TD's is "bad"?

Got it.

Let the rationalizing begin.

There's no need to with your logic.

A QB who throws TD's is worse than a QB who doesn't throw TD's.

Only at ChiefsPlanet is Geno considered an amazing QB prospect. JFC

The guy couldnt even get a good D1 scholarship and the one he did get he turned away cuz he knew he couldnt win the job. Talk about a homer, you need to Take a QB first just so you can finally say the Chiefs did it. Then you will sit and wallow, while he sits on the bench because he cant even beat out AS. What a GM you turned out to be. This is getting embarrassing for you, arguing a mediocre QB for the first overall pick. It has nothing to do with homer, it has to do with building a successful franchise. It starts with the guys up front. The QB will be there, even Geno couldnt succeed with what was going on this past season. We need a dominant left tackle
Not many here (myself included) think Alex Smith will completely suck in KC...most of us think he will do just enough to keep us hovering around 8-8 and just out of reach from the good quarterbacks in the draft while our homegrown talent wastes away.

I'm sorry, ayleswbj. You'll have to excuse us. Everybody is entitled to his/her opinion on Chiefs Planet, no matter how ludicrous, senseless, idiotic, ill-conceived, poorly written, cliched, unoriginal, or jaw-droppingly stupid it may be.

Go on, please. Tell us all about how the Chiefs will start to finally win if they copy the exact blueprint from the past 30 years that won us jack shit. We want you to feel welcome here.

Its funny i feel the same way about what you old postesr write, kills me when i read ya all just want to take a QB with the first pick just because the Chiefs havent done it in 30 years, Yea what a great way to bulid a Franchise. Take a the best QB #1 in a extremely sup par QB class. Poorly written as you think it may be, its the truth. I stick with my opinion on building from the inside out. Geno smith is Akili Smith. But hey you can be happy knowing if they draft him nothing will have ever changed for you and you can keep posting the exact same things on the board for the next 30.

Okay, I'll ignore the illiteracy in your post and go after substance.

Geno Smith is not Akili Smith. They are not even remotely alike in terms of play style, etc.

You are obviously parroting some idiot and haven't watched a single game of Geno's, because, if you did, you wouldn't be spouting such utter nonsense.

And it's not a subpar QB class. It's actually pretty deep with a lot of guys who could be potential high ceiling type of players. Lots of sleepers as well. And Geno's senior year was nearly identical to both Griffin's and Lucks from last season. And he posted combine numbers that were among the best you've seen from a high level quarterback prospect. You sir, are a moron.

Stop being stupid and do some research before spouting off a bunch of inane blather.

Quinn has a real good shot at a Ring being on the Seattle Roster, not that he will have anything to do with getting there. But still gets a ring before any Chiefs.

By Illiteracy do you mean "ur" maybe you do to much spell check on a message board, or maybe you think i mean bored. Either way I am hoping you can guess the meaning. Maybe not though, Next time i will try to write at University level on a message board. What a freaking turd. As far as LT goes you sir need a lesson. This First round has 2 to 3 Franchise changers, guys who will anchor for 10 years or more. Not F'ing sleepers! Jesus you have been so mediocre for so long you put your hopes on sleepers an to compare Geno to Luck and RG3. You just showed how much you know about football or anything for that matter. Geno is about as good as James Franklin. Potential Potential, give me guys who can play, not ones with potential. YOur research is ridiculous, you forgot to add that RG3 was an academic all american who grad in 3 years, also one of the Best Hurdlers in the world and there combine results were not even close. RG almost a 40inch vert, Geno 33. RG 40, 4.4 Geno, 4.59. round up or down if you please but that difference in a 40 may as well be a mile. Arent you tired of drafting Potential, High-ceiling guy? What about "Best Player Available'!!!! Find one article from any scout that says collectively this is a strong QB class and post it for all of us.

Most Scouts View

In a year where the draft's quarterback class is considered weak, there is one player who has risen up and separated himself from the pack. West Virginia's Geno Smith has scouts convinced he is the only quarterback worthy of a first-round selection.

It's hard to argue with that notion because signal-callers are overvalued and overdrafted year in and year out. However, I have a hard time believing any team would select Smith inside the top five. I get that he can make all the throws and has a strong arm, but what I don't understand are his long stretches of sub-par play.

To be considered a top-five pick, you have to make the players around you better. And with Smith, I just don't see that. The pass-heavy scheme at West Virginia and the talent around him helped him become ia top-notch prospect.

On draft day, he better hope he goes to a team who has a few offensive pieces in place. If the Jaguars or the Raiders rush to the podium and make the second team All-Big 12 selection their pick, Smith may be doomed from the get-go.

Who gives a shit if it's a strong QB class? The point is there is one guy that is heads and shoulders above the rest coming out. Geno is a top 10 pick in about any year. Does he have a few worts? Sure, but so did guys like Rodgers, Ben, and Flacco or they wouldn't have slipped out of the top 10. You can get top 10 LT's in FA. You can get top 10 players at any position in FA every year, except QB. Which is why they are pushed higher in the draft and why it's worth a shot taking a guy that grades out the same as many franchise QB's in the league now coming out of college. With the new CBA even if Geno bust you aren't burying the franchise for 5 years. In the end it's a low risk high reward move to draft Geno. The QB is the difference maker and right now we've got a guy behind center that is a middle of the pack QB at best. We do have a top 10 LT however and 2 pretty damn good OLB's.

Tell me more, because from where I sit, they are at least remotely alike. Tell me about all their differences.

Also, if you had to compare him to a major bust from a previous draft, which bust would you say he most resembles?

Yes I know, I heard you, "hes the best of all the bad QB's in the draft. Just what we need. Of all the Weak QBs, he is the best one of them. I cant believe i am hearing this. I guess we will just let the draft run its course and see how history plays out.
