Gun Policy & Law Enforcement: Survey Results

http://ddq74coujkv1i.cloudfront.net/...mmary_2013.pdf

PoliceOneís Gun Policy & Law Enforcement survey was conducted between March 4 and March 13, 2013. More than 15,000 officers completed the survey, which was promoted by PoliceOne exclusively to its 400,000 registered members, comprised of verified law enforcement professionals. Only current, former or retired law enforcement personnel were eligible to participate in the survey. The survey sample size was broadly distributed
by geography and rank in proportion to the U.S. law enforcement community at large. Respondents comprised a variety of ranks from departments of all sizes, with the majority representing departments of greater than 500 officers. Of those that took the survey, 80 percent were current law enforcement officers and 20 percent were former/retired law enforcement.

Assuming you and Frazod don't understand, or care to understand the level and for harassment that goes on these days. It's not the same as when you were young. I'm younger than you guys, and it was nothing like this when I was young. The addition of technology, coupled with the fact that these kids know there will be no discipline for their actions makes it crazy really. Especially at school. The school has ZERO power, and lack the training to deal with these things. There's no reason kids need to be driven to suicide b/c they don't want to deal with the torment any longer. It happens WAY too often.

I'm lucky my friend Todd's little brother (whose name, ironically, is Kyle) took all that abuse in stride.

Actually no to all of the above.

The fact that you guys act like you went full pump on your BB gun wars tells me you're full of shit. Had too many lodged BB's to believe that. A real bitch to get out most of the time. There is always a pump limit. Unless you bitches were shooting from long distances.

There is a difference between BB gun wars with your friends and going after some kid b/c your a damaged little ****.

pretty much same for me.......i had a real dick of a grumpy old man neighbor who kept his pool SPOTLESS. I used to fire a few bb's at the deep end to watch him try and clean them out over the next couple days........that went better than the weedkiller incident though

That must have sucked. Luckily, none of us ever got in trouble.

Remind me to tell you my favorite BB gun story later. For now, I'm out. (And actually mean it.)

The Nancy boy mentality anymore is mind boggling. JFC the last couple generation would have been lucky to make it back when I grew up. & they for sure would have been worms meet growing up in the era my parents did.

Long distances, thick clothing and a "no head shots" rule was all we needed... and even our "powerful" guns weren't really that powerful back then.

HERE is the real difference. When we were kids we weren't assholes because A) we just weren't mean spirited bastards and B)we would have gotten hell from not just our parents but any adult nearby. The pussification of adults has left us with more pussy kids and more psycho bully kids that see the weakness and exploit it. Even though this is true and it isn't as good as when I grew up, it's still not as bad a problem as you seem to make it out to be.

So one of the issues I have with this survey is the question lumping Aurora and Newtown together and then asking what effect more armed citizens would have. While I understand the 80% saying "it would likely reduce casualties" in Newtown, I just don't see how an overwhelming majority can honestly say that more armed citizens would have reduced casualties where the perp was in a dark theater, equipped with body armor, and using teargas.

The question I would like to see on that survey is "What would limiting magazine capacity have done in Aurora?"

Also the last question just is just odd to me. So a majority feel violent crime increases are result of decreased family values??? While I wouldn't argue that it's a factor, I think the survey should have allowed the option for picking more than one answer. And while family values is a factor, good luck fixing that.

Tear gas would make it a bitch, for sure. However, the movie had started and it wouldn't be that dark in there. If he was towards the screen he'd actually be silhoutted and make for an easier target. I wasn't there and that's just my two cents.

Anyway, I've said it over and over...these guys are cowards. When it's over they kill themselves or hide in the bushes. One person standing up and firing 5 rounds into the floor/ceiling would make these guys shit themselves and run.

How many of these whackos stick around long enough to have a gun fight with law enforcement? They don't want confrontation, look for the easy way out, and look for the easy target.

Seriously, it's been asked before, would you rather be trapped in a theater with a mad man shooting everyone....or trapped in a theater with a mad man shooting at everyone and two or three people shooting at the whacko trying to kill you and yours?

Slight problem with your scenario, we know in high stress situations that trained police officers are highly inaccurate. The general public is worse.
