Massive explosion at Texas Fertilizer Plant

This apparently has just happened in the last hour... but a fertilizer plant in the town of West, Texas... near Waco, has exploded. Apparently it was felt up to 60 miles away. Some of the pictures rolling in on Twitter are insane. Looks like a volcano. Sounds like multiple buildings leveled, on fire, etc.

It appears that other long distance mushroom cloud shot may be from a 2008 refinery explosion in western Texas.

The Waco, TX hospital has been told to expect at least 100 injuries.

This is what the place used to look like (the buildings and silos in the dirt patch just right of center). That's a large housing development to the left, and it looks like a school at lower left.

Who's that man on top of the building and why is he carrying a back pack?

Apparently numerous firefighters were on their way there 10-15 minutes prior to the explosion

Bill Bohannan, who was visiting his parents at their house in West, near the plant, witnessed the explosion and said it was a devastating blast.

“I said, ‘This thing is going to blow’ ... and I told my mom and dad to get in the car,” Bohannan said. “I was standing next to my car with my fiancee, waiting for my parents to come out and (the plant) exploded. It knocked us into the car... Every house within about four blocks is blown apart.”

do fertilizer plants suffer the same fate that grain elevators do. Every once and a while a spark makes it go boom?
