The one thing we can look forward to: the league's best OL.

Last year, PFF gave the Chiefs the 12th best line.

That's even with Albert missing games, Ryan Lilja playing center, Jeff Allen playing poorly, and Stephenson having to play left tackle for five games.

12th best line.

Now, the Chiefs are better. If you're a fan of the trenches, and I know most of us on this site are not, but I unapologetically am:

Albert's healthy. Hudson's back. Allen's getting competition from Geoff Schwartz, and we're replacing Winston with Eric ****ing Fisher.

LT: Albert
LG: Allen/Schwartz
C: Hudson
RG: Asamoah
RT: Fisher

Here are last year's top 5 OLs:

1st: 49ers

LT: Joe Staley
LG: Mike Iupati
C: Jonathan Goodwin
RG: Alex Boone
RT: Anthony Davis

2nd: Patriots

LT: Nate Solder
LG: Logan Mankins
C: Ryan Wendell
RG: Dan Connelly
RT: Sebastian Vollmer

3rd: Jets

LT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson
LG: Willie Colon
C: Nick Mangold
RG: Matt Slausen
RT: Austin Howard

4th: Broncos

LT: Ryan Clady
LG: Zane Beadles
C: JD Walton
RG: Louis Vasquez
RT: Orlando Franklin

5th: Cleveland Browns

LT: Joe Thomas
LG: Jason Pinkston
C: Alex Mack
RG: Shaun Lauvao
RT: Mitchell Schwartz

I think we can make a run at this group in 2013.

THey were the number one rushing offense in football last year with alex smith at qb. You have such hate for alex smith that you just tell lies, just to tell lies. Quite comical.....

It is true, but thats because and this was said publicly by greg roman, that they had instructed alex smith that if it wasnt there to throw it away, or to take a sack. Thats the thing with Alex. He will do whatever the coaches ask him to do. Now, if things dont go to script, thats when he will eff up. He cant improvise for shit.

Great. We gave up almost a 1st and a 2nd for a game-managing QB that holds on to the ball too long and cant improvise for shit. And did you ever wonder why they told him to do that? Because they didn't trust him not to turn it over.

as opposed to qbs who turned the ball over 37 times? You would rather have that?

anyway, here is an article on it.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...sacks-to-picks

Alex Smith has been sacked 51 times since the start of 2011. We're talking about David Carr numbers here. But unlike the Carr-era Houston Texans, the San Francisco 49ers advanced to the NFC Championship Game last season and are now the early Super Bowl favorite.

Schein Nine: Alex Smith, NFL star

Adam Schein heaps praise upon underappreciated 49ers QB Alex Smith and provides three upset picks for Week 3. More ...

Smith and San Francisco have a simple philosophy -- sacks are better than interceptions.

"Obviously, you don't want to take sacks, but sometimes it's not the end of the world," Smith told The Associated Press. "You watch Aaron Rodgers play, a guy that takes a lot of sacks, but he also makes a lot of plays with his feet, keeps plays alive. There is some give and take there with not just forcing balls and getting rid of the ball."

Smith has thrown the fewest interceptions of any quarterback since the beginning of last season. He holds the team regular-season record with 216 attempts without a pick. That would be 284 including the playoffs.

"If your ultimate goal is to keep your stats low in sacks, then he needs to get rid of the ball," 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. "Our ultimate goal is to win games, and you don't lose games getting sacks. You lose games by turning the ball over and not scoring enough points.

"There's some times where you quantify a sack as a smart sack for a quarterback, at least we would."

Can't argue with Roman. You'd rather take a sack than blindly throw into coverage to avoid it. What amazes me, still, is we're talking about Alex Smith. The same Alex Smith who threw 53 interceptions in 50 starts before 2011.

Keep doing your thing, late bloomer.

Kind of a "Moneyball" approach to football, I'd say. Bill James shit.

they truly believe that if you dont turn the ball over you will win. That is the first thing the taught alex smith. Dont turn the ball over, if it aint there, eat it, every possession should end in a kick. It was something that 49er fans didnt understand. And still dont......

What?

You can't even comprehend what I'm trying to say.

The 49ers had a great offensive line two years running.

And yet, Alex Smith was the MOST SACKED QUARTERBACK IN FOOTBALL.

Because his pocket presence stinks like your posts.

Smith played behind a better OL and was sacked more.

While playing with leads, and a better running game.

How is that even possible?

You can win a shit ton of games by playing ground control, clock control, and defense, and minimizing mistakes.

You win championships with playmakers making plays.

The most important playmaker is QB.

Alex Smith will win games.

Alex Smith will never win championships.
