Boy Scouts approve plan to accept openly gay boys

After lengthy and wrenching debate, local leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have voted to open their ranks to openly gay boys for the first time, but heated reactions from the left and right made clear that the BSA's controversies are far from over...

No leaders yet, but won't be far behind.

Would you be in favor of removing their tax exempt status in exchange for letting them discriminate how they want?

I don't see any reason to do that.

That doesn't make any sense. Why do you say that?

I've actually heard catholics argue that since most of the boy victims were post-adolescent, that the bishops were homosexuals acting on their urges, and not pedophiles. They turned the situation into another way to demonize homosexuality.

You think they'd rather demonize homosexuals than pedophiles?

I assume you mean post-pubescent. And I think you're confusing the legitimate rejection of the term pedophile in situations involving post-pubescent boys with gay bashing.

Edit: I'm sure there are some Catholics who find homosexuality more abhorrent than pedophilia and maybe you happened to encounter them, but I don't think it's a widespread belief at all and it's not legitimate to generalize about Catholics on that basis.

You know that moment when you realize you are getting old?

That moment came for me at the age of 16, when you could walk past a group of catholic priests and they don't even look at you anymore.

There is not a national movement to accept pedophilia. It was an opportunity to say, look at what homosexuals do.

No. It is an opportunity to say those men are monsters and should be prosecuted. May they burn in hell.

In any event, you shouldn't generalize on the basis of what a few Catholics you've encountered might or might not have done. Your post (#139) made no sense nor does your explanation justify it. Catholics don't "justify" bishops touching little boys.

I know several and those I have spoke with about this subject tend to see them as child molesters. Gay or homosexual doesn't seem to be their view. It is how I view them also. I have made my opinion about this subject often. I could give two shits in a bucket if someone is gay or if they get married. If they are law abiding productive people file in.

I also have admitted that I would not feel comfortable with my son or now the case would be grandson on a camping trip with a gay man. I know it opens me up to criticism. I do not understand what causes a man to be attracted to another man or a woman to another woman. While I am pissing people off I will also admit that I grew up with thugs and we alway thought the guys who were cub scouts and Boy Scouts were most likely queer lol~
