Boy Scouts approve plan to accept openly gay boys

After lengthy and wrenching debate, local leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have voted to open their ranks to openly gay boys for the first time, but heated reactions from the left and right made clear that the BSA's controversies are far from over...

No leaders yet, but won't be far behind.

Sure they do. At least they did in the 80s. Right around that time, they switched from the dark olive shirts with no collar to the tan shirts with collars, but the neckerchiefs stayed.

When our troop went to epaulettes, we canned the neckerchiefs except at court if honors or formal events where dress unis were required.

So we did technically wear them, just not often.

My main memory was how fricken expensive the new unis were. They went from Olive to Tan within like 6 months of me starting BSA, and I already had the Olive getup. Took some cajoling and promises to stick with it for my mom to shell out the coin. Only sold at JC Penney and more expensive than Polo or Brooks Brothers.

eagle scout here...

scouting in urban areas is dead and has been for a long time...

scouting in general ain't what it used to be...

some of the best times of my life were on scout camping trips and summer camp...

i miss it...

before he died, my brother was a scout leader in kansas and he said it was totally different than when we were kids...

and that it was slowly dying out due to competition from the digital world...

oh well, memories are the stock-in-trade of the old...

it's just sad that today's kids can't experience the joys of good ol'-fashioned scouting...

enough downer, who's up for a good stoning?
