Boy Scouts approve plan to accept openly gay boys

After lengthy and wrenching debate, local leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have voted to open their ranks to openly gay boys for the first time, but heated reactions from the left and right made clear that the BSA's controversies are far from over...

No leaders yet, but won't be far behind.

This isn't about your rights as a parent. It's about the fact that you are frightened of what might happen if your kids are around kids that are different from you.

No child should ever be bullied. We have a program that teaches that and requires students to prevent or report it. It's hard enough being a kid without that crap happening.

Maybe someday they'll grow up and participate in a forum of their own, in which they can be repeatedly banned for hateful racist comments too!

His kids most likely won't exhibit the same bigotry that he has because eventually they will be exposed people different from them on TV, the internet and in real life away from home. He is just delaying the inevitable.

You miss the point completely. You want to push your morals on me and negate my own. Not happening.

Being gay is not behavior in itself and therefore cannot be abhorrent behavior.

Not saying it's a choice. Just don't want it in my kids tent.

I think this is a generational and regional thing. Folks in older generations have little exposure to gay folks. I have close friends, coworkers and family who are gay. Some I knew before coming out, and in one instance a friend of mine told me first out of his college friends when he came out.

It's a lot easier to be a bigot when you don't know and can't relate to the people that you want to treat differently and make decorating jokes about.

I don't think vail's school kicks anyone out for thinking to themselves how much they'd like to cozy up to the same sex.
