NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

From the Guardian

Quote:
The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.
Quote:
The secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (Fisa) granted the order to the FBI on April 25, giving the government unlimited authority to obtain the data for a specified three-month period ending on July 19.

Under the terms of the blanket order, the numbers of both parties on a call are handed over, as is location data, call duration, unique identifiers, and the time and duration of all calls. The contents of the conversation itself are not covered.

The revelations about PRISM are just as interesting if not more.

You'd expect highly regulated telecoms to hop on board with this, but private companies? Hmm. Each of those companies is also publically traded. Notice that Tumblr and Twitter aren't listed. I'd have to look, but I suspect that Skype shows up after they were acquired by Microsoft.
Like I said I just figured it was happening from the get go. In fact I remember several years ago starting a thread about AT&T giving up all kinds of personal phone call information to the government. I thought it was BS then and think it is BS now. But I never supported the Patriot Act to begin with for this exact reason.

I love how two parties can be entirely complicit in something (like the continued destruction of the 4th amendment) and yet political parrots will naturally turn it into a left vs. Right thing and argue about how 'their guy' isn't as bad as the 'other guy'.

Reps and Dems are equally to blame for the ongoing evaporation of our civil liberties. As long as people are slap fighting over wedge issues and 'gotcha' politics, they'll continue to do so.

Honestly I don't know how much of this is going on. Watching Ari Fleisher try to deal with the fact that he was in agreement with Diane Feinstein last night on CNN was kind of funny, actually.

If you want to argue the legality of the action versus the ethics then Bush failed on both fronts and Obama only failed on one. Either way...this kind of activity is really sketchy regardless of who's in power or whether they went through the FISA court or not.

Why censor that? The comparisons are appropriate.

Yes, I know about Common Core—Obama's attempt to nationalize what your children get taught. And it just more indoctrination and dumbing down. I was gonna put it up but didn't have time to hang around to really get into debating it the way I felt it needed.

If people think No Child Left Behind was bad—this is even worse!

Then there's all the money going into local schools, from the UN believe it or not promoting Agenda 21. Maine accepts a lot of this money. My brother's kindergardener came home singing Obama, Obama, Obama and I don't want that white guy (Romney) to win, and children's books on global warming. My brother changes the gw books to global cooling when he reads it to her.

Another reason to abolish the Dept of Education.

There's not much difference between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, except maybe the body count, and the length of duration.
