Proof that universal background checks work

California has had universal background checks since the 90s. Does it impede criminals from getting guns? No....Does it impede crazy people from getting guns? Clearly not....

At some point you have to address the real problems i.e. mental illness, general prohibition. Of course instead of doing the sane thing, I fully expect CA politicians to attempt to ban all things.

The semi-automatic rifle used in last week’s shooting rampage in Santa Monica that left 5 dead was likely home-built using parts purchased from a variety of internet vendors, law enforcement sources told KFI NEWS Tuesday.

Once assembled into a functioning firearm the gun would have been considered illegal under California’s assault weapons ban, the sources said, but each of the individual components was most likely legal to purchase.

The gun’s lower receiver – the part considered by state and federal laws to be the regulated component – bore no serial number, and firearms analysts at the L.A. County Sheriffs crime lab examining the rifle suspect that’s because it was sold as an unregulated, “incomplete,” receiver.

I take the position that 'you can't prevent crazy people from doing crazy things'. You can make all the laws you want put some enterprising crazy person is going to find a way around them.

Good point. Asking the govt to be able to monitor or handle that is ridiculous and winds up in a police state too.

How did he get the lower? That's the same as getting a full gun illegally.

But it's will be used to ban online purchases and the like.
