The Atlantic, white deaths > white births

First time in US history:

According to a new Census Bureau report, 12,000 more white Americans died than were born between July 1, 2011 and July 1, 2012.

Why do you want the Baby Boomers to die off? So we can get the (self-proclaimed) experts on everything, the Milennials, to lead us into the future?

"The Baby Boom includes people born
from mid-1946 to 1964."

After some lazy googling it looks like the Milennials (or Generation Y) started around 1982. That's quite a gap. If early thirty somethings are capable of taking over this country...then it truly needs to be taken over.

I don't go by when the boomers were born, I go by when their parents were born, and in order to be a baby boomer IMO, your parents had to have been born in the twenties, or at least 18 years of age from 1940-1945.

Meh. I don't think it's necessarily cut and dry, and I have seen reference to two specific periods of Baby Boomers, but the Baby Boom refers to the dramatic increase in birth rate after WWII. It really doesn't have anything to do with the specific ages of the parents so much as it has to do with the historic time periods that a person aged through. The unusually large group of citizens in certain age ranges had a distinct effect on our society. Then the interaction between that group and society as a whole had a distinct effect on the Baby Boomers themselves.

This is about the most clueless post I've ever read.

Millennials are slightly more immature. But businesses are being held back because the world is shifting at an astronomical pace and too many leaders are stubbornly stuck on an old way of doing things.

We are a technological world led largely by leaders who just got onto Blackberries a few years ago.

Just to be clear, in your perfect world, your business would not hire women who should all stay in their homes, would be openly critical of gay people, and would fire all milennials and keep baby boomers in leadership positions while young people wait on the sidelines.

Yup, this is a great future for the private sector.

As good paying manufacturing jobs and other tech jobs that do not require college degrees have continually been shipped overseas, and wages have stagnated and not kept up with the cost of living, having children (or as many children) has been made more difficult for many families.

Shitty wages and continually rising costs has a lot to do with this in my opinion.

The reason why I did it the way I did is 'cos the lowest birthrates in America was in the 30's, so say you were born 1936, you were 11 in '45 when the war ended, yet you were married and having kids '62-'64, but so were the guys born in '28 who were old enough to have been in the war.

I'm just saying the kids in those families were different. They may have been in the same age group, and both defined as baby boomers but I think they were raised different and they thought different. Kids who's parents were born and raised in the 30's were different from the kids who's parents were born in the 20's. This is from my own experience growing up and interacting with my parents and the parents of some of my peers (who may have been in my age group but their parents were ten or 15 years older than mine) I think the true baby boomers were exclusively born in the decade after WW2 and their father had to have been a veteran.

You're kidding right? You think business and industry management is simply a function of who can build webpages, do SEO optimization and browse Facebook the best?

Spot on. Cheap housing has to be te primary cause of family formation. What young couple can afford a decent house now? Nobody wants to have a bunch of screaming toddlers in an apartment. In the old days people would, but millennial grew up in nice or at worst decent places and its hard or them to face that they aren't able to do it as adults.

That said feminism and the pill are the bigger causes IMO.

I think that's part of it but it's not the whole picture. A major part of being a Baby Boomer is that there was a huge surge in births over a specific time period. Our society changed by necessity to deal with the raw numbers of births. So you get a group of people who could very easily grow up thinking that they are the center of the universe and that the world around them is their plaything. The differences in their upbringing would have to cause differences in their personalities of course. They don't all have to be entitled douchebags, but I'd say there is definitely a foundation for it.

You know nothing about business if that's really what your opinion is.

You cannot compete in today's world if you don't understand technology and digital marketing. And digital marketing is now being replaced by mobile/tablet. Sales organizations are obsolete, because people would rather ask their networks and research on the internet than rely on some salesperson to sell them products. Face-to-face visits are expensive and time-consuming when there are options that allow people to meet virtually. Cold calls are horrible business practices. You can go ahead and look up the miles of research. More than 3/4 of consumers shop online before buying a product.

I have worked in both the old school and the new school environment. I'm learning to adjust too. Many executive leaders are not, and they're holding businesses back because of their refusal to invest in digital, and their stubborn insistence to push business practices that are becoming increasingly ineffective. Consumers are smarter and more sophisticated.

Based on your response, I hope you don't work in the private sector. If you do, you're part of the problem. I hate Twitter, I am slowly learning SEO/Paid Search/etc.... But I'm not stupid to realize that any business that doesn't seriously embrace this is dead in the water.
