Will these Obamacare steps benefit you or your family?

Will these steps benefit you or your family?

  1. No pre-existing conditions.
  2. No cap on benefits. If I or a member of my family need to battle cancer, they will get the help they need.
  3. Insurance companies can't drop me or my family if we get sick.
  4. Carrying your kids on your health insurance until the age of 26.
  5. Insurance companies have to spend at least 80% of all revenue on healthcare. If they go over, we get a refund.
  6. A shitload of preventive services will be free. Googled the list.http://www.uspreventiveservicestaskf...uspsabrecs.htm

Spin off from another thread. Going to make this a private poll

Yes, they say "I have no need for medical care". what happens if they get cancer or wreck their car? They are still leeching off the system.

They have the knowledge that if they get sick or have a wreck, they will receive care.

If we had a system in place that denied admittance to a hospital, clinic or the ER without insurance. How many people would not buy insurance? Risk dying on the side of the road in the cars after a wreck?

I worked in a level 1 trauma ER for 5 years. I would guessestimate that maybe 10% had insurance. And that was real expensive bills being racked up. Who paid the bill for the 90% that leeched off the system? We all know the answer......the taxpayer.

I enjoyed the hell out of that job. Lost count of how many lives I saved. Probably would have stayed in the field till I retired. But, when I started bringing the blood and pain home with me, I was doomed to move on.

Can I just say, I HATE that till is the proper contraction of until. It should be 'til. Till already has a meaning, to overturn earth.

No, you are using the term correctly. I wasn't Nazi-ing you. I was ranting about a quirk of English that grates on me.

definition 2.

Actually, till already has two disparate meanings, to overturn earth, and a repository for cash, ie, under a cash register.

They're not even homonyms [your/you're, to/two/too]. They're the same effing word.

None of that really does anything to show my post was incorrect. Plenty of people without insurance aren't, "leeching" anything.

Either you were in the most unique one-off ER in the USA or your guestimate is way way way off. The ACTUAL numbers show that far and away most emergency room visitors have insurance. Flip your numbers because REALITY is that the uninsured account for less then 20% of ER visits. The largest group represented in ERs? Those with Medicaid (or qualify for it and are too dumb to know).

You never know when you're going to need insurance, but it shouldn't be the first part of treatment.

I'll give a real life example.

This weekend, my youngest child tripped and fell backwards over a fire ring into a fire pit.

When we got to the hospital, the first thing after the name and very basic information requested.....insurance paperwork. it pissed me off. It pissed me off almost as much as waiting 45 minutes for pain meds that were never brought to us. After deciding I wasn't willing to wait an hour for the right people to show up capable of inserting an IV into an injured child....I checked out and drove the 3hrs to the place we needed to be anyway. The only real concern expressed...."if you choose to leave, your insurance probably won't cover this service".

Well...after waiting an hour for no pain meds I wasn't interested in waiting another one before going to the place I got the child to myself 2hrs quicker than they would have.

Heaven help the insurance person that calls to tell me they're not paying.

So to answer your question Bigredobamafan....Obama care has done precisely jack and shit to repair any real problems in the insurance and medical fields. Only made them worse.

The majority of ER ABUSE is by Medicaid recipients. Obamacare does nothing to address this and likely will only exacerbate things. The entire premise that there will be ER savings from Obamacare is a myth.

It is not a myth, if you understood the facts correctly , which you do not.

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhis/ea...-june_2011.pdf

http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2009pr...20090715b.html

I have read studies that suggest an 18-20 BILLION dollar savings....

Adults without medical insurance are much more likely to go to the ER, according to the CDC.

If you start looking at why, it becomes really clear.....it is mostly becuase they have no other alternative and it won't cost them any cash out of pocket immediately (if ever).

To try and say there is no problem with uninsured people going to the ER for things they would normally be able to see a doctor about is just plain dishonest..

***ALso there may be a propblem with your / my definition of "Abuse"......MY definition of abuse includes people with real emergencies who don't pay the bill. I don't think yours does.
