To anyone that defends these programs by saying that its not that much money, factor in all the money spent on the administrating and promoting these programs, the salaries of the worthless ****s employed by these agencies, as well as the overhead costs. Then see how much money is being wasted by these scams.

$114 billion in handouts, figuring 10% ( and that's is probably being way too generous) of the collected taxes actually goes out in the form of handouts, while 90% (probably more) is squandered by the departments, 1.14 trillion in confiscated dollars from the actual producers in this country. Remove the amounts paid by gov't employees and it probably goes 10-30 times as much. All in the name of helping the poor. Ha ****ing pathetic.

The word maximum is in the literature...did you not read & understand that?

How many single people on SS get the maximum out of 100?

According to the example they gave, most are getting 80-90%. They said it would be an expected value of 170/200 based on the deductions. Either your friends are lying to you or they aren't using their deductions, or maybe they just don't know.

I have seen the actual mail...

It doesnt really matter, of all the waste and fraud going on....I wouldnt choose to focus on food stamps for seniors on social security, whether its 50 bucks or 150....

even if it is 180 , thats only like 2 bux a meal...

I would try and find people who shouldnt be on it, and punish the **** out of THEM.

I truly think you should volunteer once a week at a senior center and get to know a few of the single people on social security trying to live on $877.00 per month....and ask them how much they get on their EBT card.... I personally do not know anyone getting even 80-90% of $180......

But hey you are the expert, so I'll bow out and just say maybe you should go outside and actually talk to the people in the program before you completely make your mind up. Or not.

**I actually think you are wrong still about the benefit being close to $200 for people on social security.

I believe your number of ~$200 does not take into account social security, which reduces the food benefit greatly.

edit: The reason I think is they say you should be spending X amount per month on food to be healthy (like say $315) , then they also say you should be spending no more than X % on your food (like 30)...so of 877, 30% is like 265...so they say ok, you are eligible for only 50$ because 315-265=50

* i just guessed at the numbers, but it is a system like that that determines what people get...so someone without SS (or other forms of income) would get more, but if you look back..every single of my examples was with SS.

It does take into account social security, which as you point out is treated as income and does count against the food benefit maximum. So your point is correct of course. However, that's why I used the example in the Lit of a hypothetical person as a single, making $800 from social security. That's why I mentioned it - the link describes almost verbatim the person you're describing.

I dont know about this.....I will try and get some info on it but the people who I have been working with have all had their food stamps cut to about 50 bucks based on some sort of math like in my above example.....

I'm not pretending to be an expert by any means, and I do admit my findings are completely anecdotal...but hell if theres a way to get them more food stamps I would like to know.

Its possible the link you quoted is out of date or old?

My example was $877.00, which could make a difference

Why would food stamps have high administrative and overhead cost? Its just sending out cards.

Maybe its changed by now, which I am doubtful of, but a lot of our married military were getting food stamps as well.
