The Top 20% Have No Idea How The Bottom 40% Get By

July 17th, 2013

In a financial planning guide for its workers, the company accidentally illustrates precisely how impossible it is to scrape by on a fast food paycheck

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/...m-wage/277845/

How McDonald’s workers CAN’T live on their minimum wages: Fast food giant sets up website to help their employees budget better… and it recommends they get a second job

Suggested monthly expenses for the hypothetical McDonald’s employee working a 40-hour week include $600 for rent – a figure that has raised eyebrows among anyone familiar with the housing market in cities like New York and Philadelphia.

While it is still possible to find housing with three-digit rent in some parts of the U.S., an average apartment in Manhattan rents for about $3,000 a month. Even in the outer boroughs it is nearly impossible to come across anything cheaper than $1,400 a month.

Because the majority of the average person's paycheck goes towards goods that have inflated, not deflated. The lower income earners have been affected by that inflation because their wages haven't grown at the same rate. I'm against wealth redistribution, whether that be via taxes or via the federal reserve's monetary policy.

I am talking about necessities of life, but what about the cable bill? 10 years ago it was about $89 for Tv, Internet and phone now it's around $200.

I only brought up these toys because you were referring to them, the same services cost double what they were 10 years ago. Electricity costs more, Gasoline costs more, Groceries cost more.

Just as an FYI, I have plenty of cash I'm referring to those less fortunate. I don't even include toys as a necessity. I have the money for an Iphone but use one of those phones that I bought for 60 with a month free service and it's 31.05 a month with all taxes.
