If he were taking where Cameron Heyward was, then people wouldn't have the hate.

I think he needs at a minimum 5 sacks this year. 8 would get rid of a ton of hat. Muhammad Wilkerson got eight playing in this defense. We'll see what happens. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm not going to be shocked if at least one or two players who sucked under Romeo flourish under Reid.

If Jackson were selected where we picked Alex Magee in the 3rd round, nobody would bitch about his lack of production. In fact, he'd more than likely be encouraged and have a few fans kind of like Jovan Belcher pre-murder/suicide.

But he was picked at the 3rd overall spot, and was just so clearly a move by Pioli to prove that weird ass Patriot picks that go against the grain happen because they're smarter than everybody else. That's why he's so loathed on this place. He's got Patriot stink on him.

Okay, that and he's just not that good.

That's the point. Jackson is fine for your average 3-4 end. Late first, second round, okay, but hr was a top five pick, and he's not, nor will he ever live up to that selection.

Which is totally reasonable to say. It's when people start in on hyperbole that it's just ****ing annoying. It's like there's only two players: All Pro and Absolute Dogshit.

Jackson would be a fine backup or even a fine starter if we were getting pass rush from the other defensive end spot. He's good against the run, but that player can be found outside the ****ing top 3 picks.

What was the deal with that pick anyways? I didn't follow the Chiefs too much that year, but did Pioli see a Richard Seymour clone that no one else saw?

There in lies the problem. You expect those picks that high to have all pro type talent. Jackson never did.

Pretty much. Pioli loved to channel Belichick in his offseason moves and draft picks. Only when insanely awesome things fell into his lap (Eric Berry and Justin Houston... all of Kuharich's good draft picks) did he look smart. If he ever ventured off on his own and went against the grain, it usually resulted in fail.

With the initial move to the 3-4, he absolutely had to have been thinking about the Richard Seymour pick. Which is hilarious, because if he really understood the 3-4 he would have made it a point to acquire the NT FIRST. BJ Raji was sitting right there.

Wow, just went back and looked at that draft.

Passed on Raji, Cushing, Matthews, Orakpo.....

yet, I saw an article when searching that says this dope would do it all over again.

yup. Dope...... I agree. either nose tackle, or pass rushers.......

Right. But to me, that makes him a terrible draft pick. Not a terrible player. He's a solid contributor who was drafted in a difference maker's slot.

Story of our football life, I guess.

I guess we differ there because I pretty much view him as a replacement level player up to this point. I don't think he's a solid contributor considering, like milk said, you can get his production out of basically anyone.

Hell Shaun smith was a veteran free agent who was better.

In the end, however it's sliced he's a huge bust

He was the worst starting d lineman on a 2-14 team. Maybe not terrible as in Juior Siavii terrible, but I would say medicore is a pretty good term. He probably belongs in the league as a backup or starter on a team with a suspect d-line.

One thing is for sure, he will perform or he will be gone next year. May be gone next year either way with it being a contract year.
And then we can spend another 1st or second on yet another fatty. Yay.

What a great investment.

I feel like he's well above average vs. the run. If he can put together even a moderate pass rush (5 sacks) then he is a very productive defensive lineman.

He'll never be elite. Elite players produce in spite of scheme. Ndamakong Suh doesn't care what defense you're running. He sees faces, and they're getting raped.

But there is a great deal of real estate between elite and mediocre. I think of Jackson as above average vs. the run and below average vs. the pass. This is definitely his last year as a starter unless he puts the QB on his back a few times.
