Walmart

There's been an issue local to Springfield regarding the rezoning of property to build yet another Walmart Market. The very basic description would be that City Council approved the rezoning of a property that a church sold to Walmart. Petitions were circulated and ended up getting more than enough signatures to either have City Council change it's mind or to bring it to a public vote. City Council decided to bring it to a vote. The church and the neighboring landowner who also sold to Walmart filed an injunction to prevent the public vote. A judge ruled this morning that the issue would not go to a vote and the rezoning would go on as originally passed by City Council. Needless to say, people are a bit outraged.

Probably wouldn't be near the fuss if Target or Kohls bought the land.
Probably. But I'm sure aware of the clientele Walmart attracts.

A company doesn't place a store like this by throwing a lawn dart in the air.

They are running programs and statistical and demographic analysis based off of things like traffic count, new construction permits, multi-family housing, zoning, median household income and many others. Each store/business knows the demographic they're looking for and they're looking at what is currently in an area, what is anticipated to be in an area in addition to the location and distances from competitors.

If Walmart is placing this store in that location, they know exactly why they are putting it there and that it will be successful.

I despise Walmart. The stores are dumpy. The employees are gross. The customers are trash. The quality of the meat and produce is total shit.

To me, Walmart and the customer base they attract represent everything wrong with this country.

What are the national security implications of a buyout in the pork industry? Are the Chinese planning to weaponize bacon?

The National security issue is : The Chinese can ship all that pork to China thus having the ability to feed themselves and creating a limited food supply for us.

Also JBS Swift is owned by the Brazilians, we are putting ourselves in a situation that can turn ugly.

I've heard there is a civil suit in the works against the City for going against the wishes of the voters on this issue and the issue of the weed ordinance the voters approved and the City Council also said "no, votes don't matter, we do what we want"
