Burger flippers want $15/hour

Like this will happen.

http://fox4kc.com/2013/07/29/kansas-...-minimum-wage/

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fifteen dollars an hour. That’s how much some fast food and retail workers say they deserve to make an hour. On Monday protests will happen in seven U.S. cities including Kansas City to push for the change.

The workers planning to protest say they want economic dignity. They say that means livable wages, benefits and humane working conditions. They say they can’t live or support their families on what they’re making.

Rallies are planned in Kansas City as well as New York City, Chicago, St. Louis, Washington D.C. and other cities.

Some workers say they plan to walk off the job in a one-day strike. Famed civil rights leader Reverend CT Vivian will lead Monday night’s events. Vivian worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Junior and has provided civil rights counsel to several presidents including presidents Reagan, Clinton and Obama.

Industry representatives say they can’t afford to pay employees more. They say most fast food restaurants operate on a meager profit margin making it impossible to increase wages.
Most fast food and retail workers make minimum wage. In Kansas that’s 7.25. In Missouri it’s 7.35. So 15 dollars would be more than double their current pay.

Monday’s rally starts at 6:30 at the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City Missouri.

They want 15.00\hr because they are being told that's what they are worth. This is going nowhere. Can't offer a Dollar Menu if you are overpaying your employees.

I worked at McDonalds back in high school and was getting minimum wage. Wanted a raise, only got .05 cents, so I went looking. Pizza Hut was willing to pay me .15 cents more an hour. So I went there. Then I got into telemarketing. Then I got into construction. Finally landed in Computers.

Anybody who thinks flipping burgers is a career worthy of "living wages" is a moron probably incapable of doing anything else.

You're right. They should pay them $30 an hour.

I'm all for it. Look around at the fatties. Probably the best way to fight the obesity pandemic across America. Do you complain about fat people raising your healthcare costs? Do you complain about about cigarette taxes raising to combat the scourge of combusting tobacco and it ill affects caused on society?

You do know that 15 dollars an hour is still less than 40,000 a year, which is still puts you in the bottom 40 percent of Americans, which is still very close to poverty.

/of course you don't know that, you can't do math
//go ahead and misrepresent their position to an extreme in order to, what? You are against Americans earning a better lifesytle

Yup, someone who work 40 hours a week should not be able to support themselves. People who work 40 hours a week should have to get help from the government.

Genius.

Managers only deserve to make 20,000 a year?

I swear, most of you guys just look at 10 dollars an hour and see 10 as some type of big number. It isn't.

Anyone who makes over 40,000 a year, likely is earning a pay over 20 an hour.

They don't understand economics, or the free market.

They think McD's is selling food that is only based on the price of labor.

McD's doesn't sell food. Well they do sell food, but what they are really selling is convenience to cash strapped, time strapped lemmings.

The very last thing McD's will ever do is raise their prices because they would then cease selling the very thing that has made them profitable. Very cheap, quick food.

I don't understand what the problem is here.

Workers, who want to earn more money, are not going to the government, but are working to better their own lives, through their own efforts, to negotiate with management.

How can you get any more freer than when both sides are allowed to negotiate the contract by which they both agree too?

And do you really want to continue to have these people to rely on the government to subsides their low pay?

You guys would rather pay more money in taxes to the social safety instead of seeing other Americans earn a pay for a 40 hour week that allows them to live outside extreme poverty. Why?

They don't deserve it isn't an answer. Any job in America for companies that make millions if not billions a year by operating in America can pay an American living standard wage.
