Burger flippers want $15/hour

Like this will happen.

http://fox4kc.com/2013/07/29/kansas-...-minimum-wage/

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ó Fifteen dollars an hour. Thatís how much some fast food and retail workers say they deserve to make an hour. On Monday protests will happen in seven U.S. cities including Kansas City to push for the change.

The workers planning to protest say they want economic dignity. They say that means livable wages, benefits and humane working conditions. They say they canít live or support their families on what theyíre making.

Rallies are planned in Kansas City as well as New York City, Chicago, St. Louis, Washington D.C. and other cities.

Some workers say they plan to walk off the job in a one-day strike. Famed civil rights leader Reverend CT Vivian will lead Monday nightís events. Vivian worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Junior and has provided civil rights counsel to several presidents including presidents Reagan, Clinton and Obama.

Industry representatives say they canít afford to pay employees more. They say most fast food restaurants operate on a meager profit margin making it impossible to increase wages.
Most fast food and retail workers make minimum wage. In Kansas thatís 7.25. In Missouri itís 7.35. So 15 dollars would be more than double their current pay.

Mondayís rally starts at 6:30 at the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City Missouri.

I think they should get $15/hr because there are no other jobs they can possibly go to that pay more. Grocery stores, hardware stores, manual labor, retail stores, etc., none of them hire workers so the fast food workers should be getting $15/hr.

So where's the mandatory raise for the middle class? You folks always preach about "blah blah the middle class is disappearing, blah blah the middle class drives this country."

It was aborted, because it's legal.

I disagree with this logic. I think people should be able to live if they will work. Even if you just raise it to 9 or 10, you still can't live on that. And those jobs you mention pay about the same at this point.

So reward the least talented moving them up to a pay scale that many are earning doing much more challenging jobs. There are aircraft workers at entry level jobs making $13 to $15 an hour. But hey **** them let's reward those doing mindless work

Those jobs rarely start that low, and even the ones that do have much more room for advancement within the company. A quick search shows that a cashier at Aldi pays $11/hr. A stocker at Target or Home Depot starts at $9/hr.

The point is you can go work at a place like these, start at $8/hr with most positions starting higher, and begin moving up in the company right away with a little hard work and dedication.
