Fox News’ Lauren Green Doesn’t Understand Religious Scholarship

You're a Chiefs fan, yet you have an opinion on the Broncos. Isn't that odd?

This is something far too many media outlets are guilty of:

"Some people say"---weasel words---followed by a question they don't have to source.

If she wanted to ask that question in such a way to engage in a productive dialogue, she could have easily said,

"Persons X,Y, and Z have called you scholarship into question due to your religious faith. What is your response to them, and the audience regarding this criticism?"

She didn't. She ****ed up and deserves to own it.
I disagree. There certainly could have been better ways to get at the issue and I'm not saying that this interview is worthy of praise, but it's not worthy of the criticism it's getting either and you're dredging up offense where none need be found with your particular criticism.

This. If she wanted to ask, on the back end, whether being a Muslim offered a different perspective on Jesus/Christianity, that's fair game.

The one Christian who tried to write a book on Islam was beheaded by extremists and his body was dragged through the streets. Just kidding, that's only what would happen. The only approximation we have was Salmon Rushdie and - well we know what happened there.

I watched that clip yesterday and think that the interviewer was being fed the questions on the teleprompter or her notes.

Seems like she was not just being her self, but had to conduct the interview a certain way to please her employer.

I thought the interview was embarrassing for all parties involved.

I get what you are saying, but as a non Muslim I think it should be put in that context. It would be the obvious question. That is an important difference between this author and others who are Christian. I think a lot of people are looking to make an issue out of a non issue. Was it a great interview...no. Did she cross any real lines...no. It is what it is on face value.

That was why I said she and her producer should be embarrassed. She was getting those quotes she used to question him from a teleprompter that the producer was feeding her. That's why she keeps looking down and stumbling over her words.

Yes, because how else could one determine an expert named Reza Aslan might be a Muslim??

To put that in context...I have a very Jewish sounding name...many people just assume I am, but I'm not. I know former Muslims that have converted to Christianity, so that is possible too. Why not just put a fact out there without having people guess, because a lot of people guess wrong.

I just googled it:

https://www.google.com/search?q=book...w=1280&bih=894

It says that there are about 12,200 results.

So any Christian author writes a book about Islam explaining it in someway should have this kind of treatment put on them in reverse?

Of course. It's worth investigating why a Christian would choose to write a book explaining Islam.
