Risking a budget shutdown or debt ceiling collapse to defund Obamacare is stupid.

So says the now-flaming-liberal Charles Krauthammer:

Quote:
Led by Sens. Mike Lee and Ted Cruz, the GOP insurgents are threatening to shut down the government on Oct. 1 if the stopgap funding bill contains money for Obamacare.

This is nuts. The president will never sign a bill defunding the singular achievement of his presidency. Especially when he has control of the Senate. Especially when, though a narrow 51 percent majority of Americans disapproves of Obamacare, only 36 percent favors repeal. President Obama so knows he’ll win any shutdown showdown that he’s practically goading the Republicans into trying.

Never make a threat on which you are not prepared to deliver. Every fiscal showdown has redounded against the Republicans. The first, in 1995, effectively marked the end of the Gingrich revolution. The latest, last December, led to a last-minute Republican cave that humiliated the GOP and did nothing to stop the tax hike it so strongly opposed.

Those who fancy themselves tea party patriots fighting a sold-out cocktail-swilling establishment are demanding yet another cliff dive as a show of principle and manliness.

But there’s no principle at stake here. This is about tactics. If I thought this would work, I would support it. But I don’t fancy suicide. It has a tendency to be fatal.

As for manliness, the real question here is sanity. Nothing could better revive the fortunes of a failing, flailing, fading Democratic administration than a government shutdown where the president is portrayed as standing up to the GOP on honoring our debts and paying our soldiers in the field.

How many times must we learn the lesson? You can’t govern from one house of Congress. You need to win back the Senate and then the presidency. Shutting down the government is the worst possible way to get there. Indeed, it’s Obama’s fondest hope for a Democratic recovery.
Is there a single soul on this board that thinks the Republican Party's plan to once again threaten a fiscal disaster to get Democrats and Obama to defund the ACA is a good idea?

Seriously, I'm asking. Is there a single person on this board that thinks this is a good idea in any way.

Its not only repubs, its libtards too.

Youre just as bad as piers morgan, just as horrible..but your banter just comes from the other end of the spectrum.....

they TRIED to repeal it?

40 ****ing times, they've tried to repeal it with meaningless votes in the republican-controlled house that will never be taken up in a democratic senate or signed by a democrat in the white house...

just as i have tried to lose weight and keep it off 40 times, the house repubs are fighting a losing battle...

The republicans that have voted to stop the crazy shit the dems are trying to push through are the only things giving us hope and keeping this country from completely flushing down the toilet, but you want to advocate not just jumping ship but helping to put holes in it?! What the **** don't you understand about Obamacare ALREADY being a complete disaster?! What the **** don't you understand about it only getting worse from here?! Giving into failure is not an option; stop being a pussy.

So basically losing a political debate and having the 'other side' win an election or pass a law you disagree with is SO horrible that it is like being ass raped by a large man in prison...and you will do EVERYTHING in your power to stop this....including circumventing the law / not respecting the will of the majority that put the law into place?

Alrighty then...

That doesn't leave too much room for compromise or working across the aisle , does it?

Do you ever wonder why you are such a failure in life? Or, do you just go on with this shitty attitude and blame everyone else? Further, you didn't even read one thing or respond to an actual point I made...so I take it that you either can't read or are too dumb to make a logic point...Again, very telling about you and your 'side'.

This is silly. It highlights the futility of the collectivist mind-set, when a nation of hundreds of millions are supposed to all have the same views, needs, and wants for one big mind-meld. This is EXACTLY what is wrong with central planning from big govt far away—IT can't possibly satisfy let alone know what each of us needs. Each of us need and want something different. Only a market can satisfy such things with it's diverse offers which allocates resources more efficiently. You want a one size fits all approach. It never has and will never work. Because there's no such thing.

Falsehood #1: Elections don't occur in just one branch of our govt. In fact, a president isn't even allowed to craft legislation. There was also an election in the House that brought in more opposition due to the fraud and trickery this bill under which this law was passed.

Quote:

Falsehood #2: There was NO will of the majority because it did not originate in the People's House. Later, the People's House brought in more opposition. Polls show it's unpopular too. In fact, the more that is found out about it, it's less popular with even Unions wanting out.

Furthermore, the fraud it was passed under makes it unConstitutional but the arguments for origination clause abuse ( if it was really passed as a tax) was never really heard by both sides because it went to the SC as a challenge to the mandate. Lastly, Obama had to bully the SC which worked because it did impinge on Roberts who was afraid of the shellacking that as going to take place afterwards. He did not want this to happen to the SC but that was NOT his job.

Boo hoo. You lost.

By downright refusing to work with the other side at all, even after a supreme court case....and TWO presidential elections......and 40 failed attempts by congress....

You are just making yourself look like obnoxious brats.....who can't get along in a schoolyard.

I am much more conservative than liberal on most issues and I see this loud and clear.

I really dont think these policies are in anyone's best interests....and they are costing conservatives lots of voters...

So good luck with the strategy of "not doing anything and refusing to cooperate".....We will see how it pans out in 20 years

You must wake up in the morning and think "how can I **** up today?" because you cannot stop yourself from sticking your head further up your ass in this thread. From the things you are saying, I am sure you had a point in your life where you 'had to try being gay to find out if you were'....

#1 Obama won the presidency, but last I checked, a hell of a lot of republicans won seats in the house & senate too. Funny how that shit works.

#2 Since you failed to learn this lil tidbit of government 101, here's some new info for you - the House controls the purse strings. Therefore, there is no 'circumventing the law' to defund shit, as that's exactly one of the jobs they are tasked with ( funding / defunding shit ) and many were voted in to do just that in regards to Obamashit.

#3 Funny you mention 'not respecting the will of the people', as I guess you have forgotten all of the people up in arms about this shit and the various congressmen / senators who refused to listen to them? And even leftard Politico has reported the polls showing overwhelmingly that the 'people' don't want this shit. 'Will of the people' be damned!

#4 'Work across the isle'... seriously? You know what happens if the R's give the Dem's all they want and shit falls apart as the disaster it is? That's right - the Dem's just find a new way to blame the R's, even if it means outright lying about who did what, and the liberal media will regurgitate it to all the low info assholes out there. Congressmen / senators weren't voted in to make deals - they were voted in to represent their constituents.

As for the rest, to quote Will Ferrell, 'I piss excellence'. I am not a leftard living as a parasite off of others. As for points, it would be nice if you made some. Now stop being a lil pussy that just 'goes along' with whatever you are told to. Grow a damned backbone and develop an IQ high enough to realize that you don't have to stick your ass in the water to know it's wet.
