If you had the time to walk across one U.S. state...?

...what state would it be, and why? And would you go north-south or east-west?

Assume that you have some time off and quoting Simon and Garfunkel, you want to walk off and look for America with a handful of Mrs. Wagner's pies.

Also assume that you are in your current conditioning. Take into account climate, scenery, wild animal attacks, proximity to McDonald's, and any other relevant criteria.

I voted New Hampshire. In the fall. Everyone should experience the far NE in early October at least once in their lifetime.

I'm going to Maine for the first time in September.

We're flying, though.

I actually have no idea. It's a family trip, being planned by my father-in-law.

I suppose I should ask him.

Vermont, from north to south. I have heard it is gorgeous in fall and it is not too big to walk through.

Eastern Colorado is as awful as Kansas and western Colorado is dry and desert-y. But to each his own I guess.

You are one lucky guy. If you drive thru Wicassett(sp?) look up Red's Eats. Considered one of the best Lobster rolls in the states.

If you stop in Camden, take time to go up to the state park and take a mild hike to the top of the mountain that looks over Camden Bay. A view I'll never forget. We didn't spend enough time in Maine.

You're going to have a blast. Well, if you like your in-laws I suppose. I'm jealous.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it. My inlaws are great.

I've never been there, so I'm just going to go with the flow. I can't wait to eat fresh-from-the-sea lobsters that still have that OH SHIT looks on their faces.

I'd pick Idaho. You get a little of Montana/Wyoming and a little of Washington.
