Man in Conceal Carry Class Shot by Instructor

Whoops....

http://www.lancastereaglegazette.com...20008?gcheck=1

LANCASTER — A Pataskala man said he’s thankful to be OK after he was accidentally shot in the arm by an instructor during a concealed carry course Saturday evening at the Central Ohio CoonHunters Association in Lancaster.

Michael Piemonte, 26, was taken by Bloom Township medics to Grant Medical Center shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday. He was treated and released that same day, but the bullet has not yet been removed from his right arm, he said.

Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen identified the instructor of the class as Terry Dunlap Sr., a Violet Township trustee who is running for re-election in November. Dunlap could not be reached for comment Monday.

Phalen said the investigation is ongoing, but it appears the shooting was accidental. He said the findings from the investigation will be presented to the Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if any charges will be sought.

Piemonte declined to say if he plans to press charges. He said Saturday’s class, which had about 30 students, was the first concealed carry class he has attended.

“During the class, my wife (Allison Piemonte) was sitting next to me. ... I’m grateful (the bullet) didn’t hit her,” he said. “If the bullet had not struck me, there were a couple students (sitting) behind me that could have gotten struck.”

Piemonte said Dunlap was doing a demonstration about where a person could keep their weapon when the gun went off.

Piemonte said the bullet ricocheted off a desk, then hit him in the right arm between his armpit and elbow.

“Within a couple of seconds, I had realized what happened,” he said. “It was a shocking thing.”

Piemonte said luckily there were three registered nurses in the class, including someone who had recently passed an EMT class.

“Those individuals helped me until the ambulance arrived,” he said.
According to a sheriff’s report, the person holding the gun believed it was unloaded when it went off. Police took a .357 five-shot Ruger handgun, four .38-caliber rounds and one spent .38-caliber round.

Idiot.

Treat every gun like it is a loaded gun. This is something that most people learn when they are 5 years old.

Never point a gun at someone else.

Uh... a whole bunch of wtf was he doing with a loaded gun in a classroom? This is my biggest concern with conceal and carry. Instructors who have no business teaching a class handing out permits to people who have no business carrying a gun in public~

These are the wrong answers. You two are supposed to make a post distracting from the story. Do not post again in this thread until you can post some story of an equally unfortunate and/or irresponsible situation or until you can turn it into a partisan issue in which liberals are the only people that would find this person's actions irresponsible.

My Air Force buddy was at the range one day with his boss, a lieutenant colonel in the securities forces, a highly decorated combat veteran, and he shot himself in the leg while drawing his pistol.

This kind of thing can happen to ANYBODY. It's like looking down or away at that wrong split second when the guy in front of you slams on his brakes. It's your fault, should have known better, and if you end up hurting or killing somebody, you're responsible for that.

Sad I suppose but these people made a choice to be involved with guns.

Most killed daily by gun owners never had a choice.

Can you please practice your pistol drawing tomorrow? Like..keep doing it over and over again. You'll know when it stops.
