Kansas School Celebrates Islam. How 'bout that?

Lefty religion haters like many here will go nuts over Jesus being mentioned in a school. And they will defend this bullshit.

Congrats Kansas.

Parents at a Wichita, Kan. elementary school were shocked to discover a giant wall display inside the building promoting the five pillars of Islam.

The large exhibit was erected before the start of the school year as part of a religion component being taught at Minneha Core Knowledge Magnet School, a school district spokesperson told Fox News.

“The bulletin board that originally caused the concern does represent the 5 Pillars of Islam — in a historical context of their studies,” the spokesperson said.

The district said the photograph of the bulletin board is misleading because it is “without context.”

“There is also a painting of the Last Supper hanging in the school as part of the study of art and the Renaissance period,” the spokesperson said. “A photo take of a bulletin board without context is misleading, and some have taken it out of context without having all the information.”

Nevertheless, the school has removed the Islamic bulletin board until the subject matter is taught later this fall.

School officials said the study of Islam is part of their “Core Knowledge” magnet curriculum.

Yes. Because it is misunderstood, and the way it is perceived in Merica is that Islam, is terrorism. That the Quran is sitting there spelled out in Arabic saying KILL WHITEY, KILL INFIDELS, KILL MERICA.

Its not religious symbolism. Its educational rationality.

There is nothing wrong with Islam the religion. Just like there is nothing wrong with Christianity, and im not being a dick, or a smartass, but maybe if the non extremists in Islamic countries took the time to explain exactly what Christianity is based upon, then we wouldn't have a lot of the problems we have.

Therefore, explaining that Islam is not code for TERRORISM would go a long way towards understanding the difference.

Semantics. I do not want to see the ten commandments or a fish symbol posted in a public school either. It's endorsement.

I agree with all that. I also understand that these things piss parents off, and simply from a pr standpoint, it's a stupid thing to do. Now you have a national news story centered around your school because some idiot wasn't thinking.

So in your view, you wouldn't want the history of the Religions taught either way?

If that's the case, I can completely understand your point of view.

got my answer above. Good post.

I agree with this, but I think it's good when people take a stand and add context to the story so that normal rationalize people can sit back and think "Oh it's not really what I'm being told."

I hope they don't back down.

Comparative religion studies are a good thing. Learning about and discussing other people and their cultures is good.

But of course there are people who don't want anything other than their own religion to be discussed, and there are those who don't want any religion at all to be discussed anywhere, ever.

Freedom of religion doesn't mean freedom from religion. And as long as nobody is shoving any one religion down people's throats and telling them they have to follow it, people should lighten up and learn something about other people.

P.S. I went to the elementary school in this article. In the 70's.

There's a difference between people getting pissed off at legitimate issues, and people getting pissed off because they ignorantly confuse teaching history with "Celebrating" religion. I'm not sure we should pander to people getting pissed out of ignorance...
