We're Bored.... Let's kill that guy

Teenage wasteland....

http://www.ajc.com/news/news/crime-l...-oklaho/nZTBg/

“We were bored and didn’t have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.”

That’s what one Oklahoma teen allegedly told police was the reason he and his two friends decided to kill a man who was jogging near them.

The three teens, ages 15, 16 and 17, reportedly shot a baseball player for East Central Oklahoma University who was out for a jog in Duncan, Okla. on Friday. One of the teens told police they did it because they was bored, according to an ABCNews.com report.

The teens followed Chris Lane, 22, as he jogged, shot him in the back and left him to die on the side of a road, according to police. “They were bored and just wanted to see somebody die,” Duncan police chief Danny Ford told ABCNews.com. Police said a woman called 911 after seeing the dying man stagger across a road and collapse.

Amazingly, according to news reports, the three teens then went on Facebook bragging that they had killed a second person: “bang, two drops in two hours,” they reportedly wrote.

Chris Lane, who was in the United States on a baseball scholarship at the school in Ada, Okla. was visiting his girlfriend in Duncan, which is about 85 miles from his campus when the shooting occurred, according to this ABC News report.

Lane’s girlfriend, Sarah Harper, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp.: “He didn’t deserve any of this. It’s heartbreaking that it was such a random choice those guys made that drastically altered so many lives in the process.”

The three teens are in custody and face a court appearance Tuesday afternoon, according to news reports. Chief Ford said the district attorney is expected to file first-degree murder charges.

Kind of interesting, in the thread in the lounge about the school shooting in Georgia there's a story in the thread saying they have the suspect and mention that he's white.

Does this mean its "open season on young white men" in America now?

I think that there is a problem among young people in this country, that many of them admire people like rappers who are in no way people to be admired.

When a subset of society idealizes thug culture to the point where it becomes interwoven into what their own culture is, there is a serious problem.

No one seems to want to talk about it, but music, movies, tv, and games do influence behavior among those who are too young to make responsible adult choices (or who never grew up to begin with).

It's not just a race thing, but it pains you to think of a single mom who is raising young black men - who is leading the way for them? Who are their heroes, who are they being told to admire and aspire to be like?

For kids who are growing up and don't know any other way, you have to see someone who's out to want to be out, don't you?

Jason Whitlock talks about this stuff quite a bit. For those who don't know about it, he has an interesting podcast series, Real Talk with Jason Whitlock, where he talks about sports and culture.

Absolutely. I Have no problem with rap or rappers. They are entitled to say and act however they want. I do have a problem with irresponsible or absentee parenting though. Children need to have positive influences in their lives. Someone to look out for their best interest. Someone absolutely failed these kids. I gauranDamntee it.

Quite seriously, what parents / guardians? I don't have the latest stats handy, but it is quite common knowledge that a typical family structure does not exist for the overwhelming majority of the black community. What needs to happen is for black leaders ( real black leaders - not oppressors like Sharpton ) need to rally their community to crack down on the people giving their race a bad rep. The concern is, is it too far gone to recover in that manner? There really is no other way to free a people from their own enslavement than for them to rise up themselves against that within their own that oppresses them.

How do we legislate that men be men and not father illegitimate children or be absentee parents?

I think this is going to be the social problem of our generation, we have so many rudderless kids growing up now.

Sounds like someone was being irresponsible as well and didn't use proper gun safety.
