Rand Paul, 2016 Republican front-runner

Rand Paul, 2016 Republican front-runner
By Chris Cillizza

The first eight-plus months of 2013 have convinced us of one thing: Rand Paul acts and the rest of the potential 2016 Republican presidential field reacts.

I think Rand is a much better candidate than his father. The only thing I know about who the frontrunner for the GOP nomination is is that it's not Rick Santorum. The field is wide open, IMO.

The GOP is successful at the state level by focusing on economic issues and the realities of actual daily governance. John Kasich is an excellent candidate with real world experience both in the us Senate and the governors chair, who'd be great at the debates and he gives you a legit shot at Ohio which, frankly, the GOP cannot win the electoral college without.

That's all fine and good except that Rand Paul has never said anything about privatizing social security. It's hard to take your post too seriously when you're spitballing and stabbing in the dark on the issues.

Political geeks know who John Kasich is. No one else has a clue. He's another one of these dead-end establishment types who everyone agrees makes so much sense early on, and ends up leaving the race after Iowa because nobody knows or cares about them. Kasich is going nowhere. He's Tim Pawlenty: The Electric Boogaloo.

Kasich isn't even going to run as a presidential candidate. He'll likely be a VP pick.

I don't think he'll be the nominee and it's very possible he won't even run, but I think the nominee will be someone like him in the sense that they aren't getting much spotlight now. If it were one of the spotlight guys (Paul, Rubio, Cruz, or Christie), my money would unfortunately be on Christie.

I could easily see this happening.

Excuse you. Rand Paul referred to soc sec as a "Ponzi scheme" and Medicare as "socialism"
http://www.ontheissues.org/economic/...l_Security.htm

I'm sure Hillary's clan won't make any references to that in Florida vs Rand. "But But he never said privatize it!" as a rebuttal will only be met with roaring laughter.

(Full disclosure I agree with him that it is a Ponzi)

I am not predicting anything as it is silly at this stage. I will say this much Rand has the abillity to pull the right wing and will draw from his father's followers also. He is a much more attractive candidate than his father. Anyone dismissing him needs to get real the GOP offered up Mitt ****ing Romney last time around~

That would make for an entertaining losing campaign.

I seriously doubt if he could survive the stress of the campaign. He'd make a fine running mate for Hillary, though.
