Rand Paul, 2016 Republican front-runner

Rand Paul, 2016 Republican front-runner
By Chris Cillizza

The first eight-plus months of 2013 have convinced us of one thing: Rand Paul acts and the rest of the potential 2016 Republican presidential field reacts.

I don't get why Romney wasn't a good candidate. I thought he was excellent. Who did you want out there at the debates?

Pat is right Christie will likely be the nominee but he'll get trounced.

Excuse you, that's not the same thing as advocating for their elimination. He's right, of course, but his platform on social security reform has nothing to do with eliminating benefits for seniors.

I'm pretty embarrassed for you that you'd link something that doesn't support what you said one iota, and then had the gall to say "excuse you." Try reading the stuff you're linking.

It's as if your are completely oblivious to the way the GOP works behind the scenes. Until there is a major shift with THOSE powers than Paul is still a distant long shot to win the primary. That shift appear to slowly be happening... but thinking it will occur by 2016 is bordering on delusional. I'd be more than happy (ecstatic even) to be wrong on this but I'm not. Cruz is a far more likely "anti-establishment" guy to sneak in and he is a pretty far long shot as well.

I think that you aren't aware of how much those powers have already started shifting. Rand Paul can get people elected. Ask Mitch McConnell what he thinks on that question. Heck, ask all the Republicans who wouldn't cross him on the Syria vote what they think about that question. This isn't the 2004 Republican party. You're right that Karl Rove's PAC is going to put a lot of money behind Christie or Rubio or Perry to try to beat Perry. Bring it on.

I understand that a lot hasn't unfolded yet to show you how right I am - but it's coming. Trust me. It's coming. Everything that is happening now has been carefully planned, and there is a lot more in the hopper.

Sorry but you're just plain wrong here. It's wishful thinking. I know this side(underside?) of politics far far better than you may think. Unless of course you honestly think that Haley Barbour and Karl Rove are now no longer relevant. In which case you've lost your ****ing mind.

No one is AGAINST Paul (although it is tempting when people like you and his other supporters are so intensely annoying with your rainbows and unicorns support) I quite like him... so do Rove (begrudgingly) and Barbour(genuinely) but the question is about who they like BETTER. If It was between Rand Paul, Ron Paul and Chris Christie I'd be tempted to say that you'd be right... but it won;t be. There are the Marco Rubios out there who are far more likely to get establishment support.

Rand Paul is a LONG shot, not impossible but not at all likely unless the GOP continues to be retarded and puts out a field as weak as the last one... something I seriously doubt.

I guess that depends on how you define relevant. I think calling them irrelevant is a stretch. I think calling them relevant is borderline due to the fact that they're incapable of winning elections anymore. They can raise money, but it doesn't matter because they're toxic with the grass roots.

That is somewhat true with Rove, mostly because he puts himself out in the public eye. Barbour is the exact opposite. He is actively working behind the scenes to get the GOP to embrace more grassroots campaign tactics. He also is trying to stop the GOP from alienating so many groups. You won't hear much about it because unlike Rove he doesn't crave the spotlight in the least.

2016 SHOULD be a transitional year where the GOP STARTS making changes in earnest. Expecting those changes to be sweeping and in place in time for the election cycle is ...well, just ludicrous. You're off by 4 maybe 8 years on this one. (Assuming the GOP doesn't just decide to stay obsolete)
