Redistribution still a goal. Obama wants your money to give to slackers

The President can "stop it"? **** him.

http://thehill.com/video/sunday-show...ocking-efforts

The president has powers to fight income inequality, President Obama argued in an interview broadcast Sunday, adding that Republicans in Congress have hobbled his efforts to do it.

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week” program, Obama acknowledged that the wealthiest Americans have benefited disproportionately from the economic recovery of recent years. But he was quick to add that much of that trend is due to globalization, technology and, not least, the GOP’s opposition to his economic agenda – all factors he suggested are beyond his control.

“I think the president can stop it,” Obama said, when asked about the growing income gap. “The problem is that there continues to be a major debate here in Washington, and that is, how do we respond to these underlying trends?”

Obama promoted his efforts to increase funding for education, infrastructure and research and development programs, and he trumpeted his push to reform the tax code to discourage outsourcing.

If you want to fix it just find the nearest billionaire, cut him a check, and then apologize.

The reality is our welfare state transfers money from young to old, not from rich to poor. Social Security and Medicare are orders of magnitude larger than all other welfare programs.

The Social Security program wouldn't be in trouble, and need more money from the government, if the idiots in DC hadn't taken money from it in years past. Last I knew, Social Security gets it's money from the people that work, and their employers. Dirty politicians taking money from it, to fund other stupid **** is what has caused the majority of the problems with it. Social Security wasn't intended to be a "welfare" program, when it was started. It was supposed to be self supporting, like a retirement account.

It transfers wealth from people who, on balance, produce - to people who on balance drain the system.

The solution to this is not to increase payout while not increasing pay-in, and worrying about how to finance it later. The solution is to turn the drains into producers.

Unfortunately, drains vote for the ruling party in much larger proportion than producers do, so there's no incentive for the ruling party to do anything to change their position.

I didn't know reversing income inequality was redistribution.

Let's not raise the minimum wage though, so these people who work but still get money from the government can contribute to society instead of getting government help. Also, the average age of McD's worker is 33, not twenty something.

It still amuses me:

GOP -- ARG too many people on the government teat till they die

Minimum wage worker -- I wouldn't be if I had a wage that covered my basic needs.

GOP --- GRRR never. Socialism!

Did you just suggest that retired people, who produced their entire life, needs to go back out into the workforce?

And that these retired people majorly vote democrat?

Thats nice but in reality almost nobody is living off the government except the elderly, and their government benefits account for more than half of all federal spending.
