"The Walking Dead" is set to begin its fourth season on AMC next month, but the network is already looking ahead to 2015, when it's expected to launch a spinoff series to the biggest drama on cable.

On Monday, AMC announced a companion series to the original. "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman will serve as executive producer on the new series alongside Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert.

While no plot details have been divulged yet, the new series looks likely to approach the zombified world from an entirely different angle.

In a statement, AMC President and General Manager Charlie Collier said, "We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It's a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse."

So this means no Rick, Glenn, Daryl or little baby Judith? Not necessarily, but it definitely appears that the new series will attempt to establish its own identity separate from "Walking Dead."

As Kirkman himself stated, "I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of 'The Walking Dead' universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."

Along with "Better Call Saul," taking the Saul Goodman character from "Breaking Bad," the as-yet untitled "Walking Dead" series will be the second spinoff series from AMC.

The new season of "Walking Dead" premieres Oct. 13.

A much better idea than trying to stick to the source material and ****ing it up.

So BrBa and TWD spinoffs. What about a Mad Men spinoff?

I'm not sure what I'd want to see there. Maybe Roger Sterling coming up as a younger man.

Is running the opposite of walking? Sitting Alive maybe? Lameness Alive? It's something to think about.

When they announce a Hell on Wheels spinoff then we'll know they are desperate.

Hell on Wheels has been really good this season. Aside from the head-scratching "stick ball" episode.

I did watch the first two seasons. Liked season 1 but season 2 got kind of ridiculous. When the new season started, I just found myself not interested enough to DVR it. I saw they moved it to Sat. nights. That's usually not a good sign of future prospects.

I'm into it. I really like it. It doesn't seem much or historical accuracy but I don't know much about the period so I can't say. I really enjoy it. It's not Mad Men good but it's damn good.

It is rather funny though. Wife is genuinely creeped out by the Sweede.

The Sweede is an awesome character. Getting creepier and creepier every time we see him.

Excited about the WD spinoff.
