Dontari Poe should just be called "Beast Mode"

I can't recall a DT with his skill set. There are only so many people in the world who weigh 340 lbs, and I dare say out of those select few (ok, in 'murica there are lots of them) he is without a doubt the fastest. Its not that he just disrupts the backfield; this guy plays sideline to sideline and can chase a runner down from behind. And he plays all three downs. He played 100% of the defensive snaps in the Dallas game. For a guy that size, that is unheard of. Any other person that size would of keeled over with a heart attack.

What is really scary about this guy is that everyone says it takes at least three years for a defensive lineman to learn his position in the NFL. This guy should have had a longer learning curve because by all accounts he didn't have any coaching in college to speak of. Give the kid a couple of years and he may well be one of the all time greats. I know it is early to say that, but I watch the guy and my jaw just drops at what he can do.

To put it in perspective, Haloti Ngata went to his first pro bowl in his fourth year when he recorded 36 tackles (26 unassisted) and 1.5 sacks. In two games in his second year, Poe went total Beast Mode and has recorded 10 tackles (9 unassisted) and 3.5 sacks.

The guy is inhuman--he is Beast Mode.

Big Train would be a pretty badass nickname for a guy with that kind of power. It's an outstanding interior lineman name.

Wanna do this shit Rainman style? Round up the nominations and make a poll?

A) 1/2 this board complains about 1/2 of everything, the other 1/2 of the board complains about the other 1/2. There's thousands of personalities on this site - yes, there will be complaints.

B) As a 2-gap NT, his talent was going to be wasted. The concerns were legitimate at the time. However, as a 1-gap guy is an absolute behemoth.

I'll admit that I preferred Brockers to Poe because I thought Poe was the kind of guy you take in the 2nd (insane talent, poor production). 11 overall seemed way too high for a 2-gap NT that struggled to get off the ball and play with proper leverage.

Fortunately, the scheme change has helped and allows him to use some of that freakish agility. He's still a little slow off the ball, but now that he's allowed to shoot that gap and attack rather than just plow into the G/C, he can make things happen even when his technique is less than ideal.

He worked his ass off in the off season too to slim down. A good combination!! Glad we have him over the Donks.
