Boehner says he will not pass a clean bill from Reid

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) insisted Thursday that the government would not shut down, but he also flatly refused to pass a "clean" spending bill to keep Uncle Sam in business next week when the bank account runs dry.

"I do not see that happening," Boehner told reporters on Capitol Hill after meeting with Republican legislators.

The House passed a measure last week to fund the government after Sept. 30 only if Democrats agree to strip spending from Obamacare. The Senate is in the process of removing the health care defunding and plans to send a simple spending bill back to the House by this weekend. That bill would keep the government running until Nov. 15.

Boehner declared, "I don't expect" the government to close. But he did not explain how he and his Republican caucus could amend the Senate bill, debate it, vote on it and send it back to the Senate for more action there before Oct. 1.

"There will be options available to us," Boehner said. "There's not going to be any speculation about what we're going to do or not do until the Senate passes their bill."

Hahaha! People actually try to use the presidential election out come as a referendum for Obamacare. Sorry but, people just did not trust that Romney would do the right thing.

During the 2012 campaign, the GOP and right wing media made a big deal about how the Senate had not passed a budget in so long. Now the Senate has passed a budget a long time ago and the house GOP does not want to schedule a conference to negotiate a bill that both chambers could pass.

Similarly, they have declined all offers to negotiate for new tax policy.

The problem with going on a mindfreak where you get some video game kick out of watching overzealous legislative minorities pretend like they run the show is that there are 365 days in the year my friend.

Why don't these folks negotiate all of these issues to the best legislation they could get that passes both houses and is not vetoed.

I think the biggest reason why is that they have a very cynical view of democracy. These guys are not even honest when talking about little things.

They do not care about the United States of America at all. The only thing they care about is making a name for themselves and getting fools to send them more money to act like goofballs.
Absolutely NOTHING in your posts addressed anything I wrote. Your post had some valid points but again, they had NOTHING to do with my analogy.

I'll expand it so maybe we can get back on topic. The dad told the kid not to buy any more crap but he didn't have direct control over the kid's actions so the kid continued. When the CREDIT CARD BILL CAME DUE is when the dad finally made a stand and said "I'm not paying this bill or any future bills until you promise not to buy crap with it." This House has made it clear all along that they don't want to fund Obamacare to the tune of 42 or so bills passed trying to repeal it. It should come as no surprise that when the President comes asking for money they say "Sorry, not if you spend it on crap."

You may not like it, but that is EXACTLY what the House is elected to do. It may seem odd but they are actually doing what they are SUPPOSED to do for once.

That's not even REMOTELY close to true in my case. I can't speak for every small business owner out there but I can speak to my own situation.

Yep. If there is no malice intended with this law, if it is not only harmless but also the good and necessary thing we are told it is, why does not the inspiration behind the bill, and our messiah leading us into a brave new world, help calm the fears of millions of his people that he so adores by submitting himself to his own legacy?

C'mon Obama, lead the way and enroll in your own program.

These groupies blindly follow. When they read anything critical they respond with hurt feelings and feverishly search for anything they can find to defend their American Idol president~

What is this supposed to mean? He's subject to the law. I assume he has health insurance, so there is nothing to "enroll" in.

No he is not. Neither is congress. All exempt. All have a special health care plan. Just like social security, our elected representatives are exempt from that because they voted themselves a better plan.

In what way is Congress exempt? The law is that you have to have health insurance. They have it.

I'm not trying to be cute about it. The most basic part of the Obamacare is that you need to have health insurance. They have it. If you don't have it the exchanges are available.

Unless you mean "exempt" as something else. For an individual to be exempt from Obamacare I assume means they don't have insurance and aren't required to get it.

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, plans to introduce an amendment to the continuing resolution currently being debated in Congress to prevent federally elected officials from being exempt from the Affordable Care Act.

McCaul, who has spoken out against Obamacare recently, said if any portion of the law must remain standing, it should be equally applied to all Americans, including those in elected positions.

Currently, the executive branch which includes, President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the Cabinet is not required to enroll in any federal health care exchanges.
http://blog.mysanantonio.com/texas-o...rs-of-congress

Same story from a different site:

Quote:
On Aug. 8 the Office of Personnel Management, which operates health plans for federalemployees, issued a proposed rule that carved out an Obamacare exemption for members of Congress and their staff to continue receiving more generous healthcare subsidies than would exist under the law.

Further, Obamacare in its present form does not address and thereby exempts the Executive Branch including the President, Vice President, White House staff and cabinet secretaries, from any legal requirement to enroll in insurance exchanges.

Yes--because they already have an insurance plan.

I guess I'm "exempt" from enrolling in the exchanges as well since I already have insurance.

Dude, you are being played by their wordsmithing. These people aren't specifically addressed by name and/or title so that means they are exempt? Everyone is subject to the ACA. The people mentioned HAVE INSURANCE. Therefore, they don't need to enroll in the exchanges.

You are correct, I misspoke, as it were. ORIGINALLY they exempted themselves from this oh so not wonderful plan and stuck with the retirement system that was already in place for them. Some time in the 80s it was changed.

The point I was making still stands, just because the federal government passes a law does not mean they are automatically subject to it.
