This is why the shutdown isnt going to stop the aca from going into effect, because it was already funded.

So they are not simply refusing to fund a current item (which could have been done in conference committee too).
You started so strong here and then quickly faded out! Your premise again negates the very purpose of the House and why they are up for reelection every 2 years. They represent the CHANGING will of the people. They can be a stopgap to allow defunding of programs that past regimes had support for but no longer do.

Personally, I don't see this as ominous.

That said, I wish they'd scrap the whole thing in favor of a single payer but that's not going to happen this year.

Thanks.
Obamacare is not being enacted per the original law. Obama himself has changed the law without approval of congress by delaying the employer mandate, plus finding waivers for all his friends. Agree?

I oppose the bill because it was based on an original lie that it would save the taxpayers money and help the middle class.

Both are not true and in the end it is an attack on the middle class. We are the one bearing the brunt of Obamacare. More cost with in the end less benefits. Death panels already exist because of Obamcare. Ask those hospitals which are fined by repeat Medicare admit tees.

Yeah but there's a lot of gerrymandering going on.

That said, I think we'll be looking at the same division in this country for the next decade.

Historically, when has a House insisted on defunding a prior program to keep the government open? Ever?

Edit: also, the will of the people here was mixed at best. Yes to obama and dems in the senate and yes to reps in the house. Trying to divine the will of the people from that reminds me of juries giving guilty and not guilty verdicts and appellate court judges trying to get their crystal balls out and divine what that means.

How about defunding a program in order to allow the govt to pay bills for which they approved the spending? Never, until this House.

I am not saying Bush didn't. What I am saying is the media and Dems would be crying foul over it an they did.
