Recall Voting For The House And Senate

Would you favor establishing procedures for recall by popular vote? I am picturing a system that would allow state legislatures to initiate recall proceedings on members of the House and the Senate, to be voted upon within the respective state.

I propose a system where we recall House members every two years and Senators every six.

People who can be fired tend to stay on their toes at work a bit more than people who can't.

These things have just forced another off year of campaigning down the public's throat. The number of these has increased quite a bit in the last few years so you dont even get to govern. Plus, the people who turn out in a recall election is usually a tiny pct. of the regular electorate.

I favor the ability to recall, but only if the guy is involved in something corrupt or criminal, and the bar should be high to get the election started. I dont favor recalls just for legislative votes that are disagreed with. Thats what elections are for.

Hell we wouldnt even have this shutdown if there weren't so many people worried about being primaried. So, that motivation already exists.

I was thinking that the state senate would have to initiate the process. After looking, Nebraska doesn't have a senate so their process would initiate in the legislature.

I voted not at all. The House is elected every two years so that's not a long time in power. As to the Senate, well I favor repeal of them being elected by popular vote and for a state legislature to choose. If they don't really represent their state's interests then they can be recalled by their legislature. In this area the original Constitution had the right idea.

I'm on board with this, too.

No recall for House members.

Senators elected by and recallable by the state legislatures.

Yes, two years isn't a very long time, and I think for House members a recall would rarely happen (if ever). Senate recall by state legislature is an interesting idea. You avoid the time and expense of a special election, and this still shifts power to the states. I'd go along with that idea rather than having no mechanism in place. Not sure on election by legislature though.

It's pointless. Feinswine could eat babies live on CSPAN and the Kalifornia kooks would still vote for her.

What we need are term limits. That's the only way people can rid themselves of entrenched assholes from other states.

May I ask what you're unsure about?

This would actually reduce corruption, which popular vote was promised to do. Now carpetbaggers can move in and run.

Yes, but another Feinswine would be elected as well. The problem there is the people of her area.
There's no guarantee that another or someone worse wouldn't get elected.

Agreed on the House.

I, too, think there should be some sort of methodology for the Senate, but it shouldn't be through state legislatures. Too many of our state legislatures in this country have been gerrymandered to the point where they look nothing like their populations anymore.

Look no further than North Carolina. A state that voted Democratic for their Congress, but the districts were gerrymandered so aggressively they ended up with a Republican supermajority.
