Obama\Dems won't negotiate on CR or Debt Ceiling

That's the report after the leaders all met this afternoon. The President and the Dems stated not only will they not negotiate on the current CR they will not negotiate on the Debt Ceiling either.

The Dems had a case for not negotiating the CR on the table now. I think extenuating circumstances may lead them to re-think that but whatever.

But to say now, flat out that they will not negotiate on the upcoming raising of the Debt Ceiling I think now pushes the pendulum a little back towards the Repubs.

Now the Repubs have ammo to say "see, they won't negotiate on anything" or "see, they say pass this CR then we will talk but this shows they really won't".

Strictly from a strategy perspective I think the Dems and Obama didn't do themselves any favors with that. If anything they should have said they'd negotiate but trying to flex muscle now will just solidify Repubs.

That shouldn't be a negotiation issue. Not paying bills that are due should not even be a consideration.

See that's the problem, nothing in your eyes should ever be a negotiation issue. In fact raising the debt ceiling should most definitely be a negotiation issue.

You know, you have a point. Maybe the Repubs should just follow the example of your hero in chief and vote against raising the debt ceiling and not negotiate.

So the Dems passed ACA without one GOP vote. Then they lost the House 18 months later. Did they think that the GOP had totally forgotten about the ACA vote or that they wouldn't want to ever bring that one up again? If every vote "decided" an issue then there'd be no issues ever left to decide on later.

That's idiotic. If you don't stand here than it all just gets kicked down the road until the next time when you can again say "AH! but we have to pay our billz!!!!" Ad infinitum.

Not paying bills that are due is idiotic. There is no benefit to it. Don't allow the spending in the first place. But don't say ok to spending, then no to paying the bill.

And its never been threatened until these Rs and Obama.

Why do I even bother with you, you obviously can only tune into the tone deaf MSNBC talking points you want to hear.

The whole "bills that are due" argument is COMPLETE BULLSHIT unless you are speaking of BOND payments or other OBLIGATED payments. NO ONE but Reid is threatening that. There is PLENTY of revenue to pay "bills that are due." The problem is that you want to lump every damn thing in as a "bill that is due." Paying NEXT MONTH'S salary for a Park Ranger is not an OBLIGATED payment. Sorry but it simply isn't. Peddle your bullshit elsewhere.

I don't understand how raising the debt ceiling is supposed to be a bargaining chip in a negotiation. Don't both parties agree on it? Is one of the parties saying don't raise it?

Well, we know in 2006 one person in particular was saying not to raise it and he was a member of a party.

This is just a big semantic game now to republicans.

Where are the thread titles "republicans refuse to conference on budget for 6 months" or "boehner wont allow clean CR to be voted on in house even though it would pass"?

The CR conference thing was just a last minute attempt to save face.

Starting in 2009, Rs decided it wasn't important to pay the bills. And they approved the spending--but something happened in 2009 and they decided paying debts owed should be an issue for extortion.
