Just finished watching students complain about loan debt.

I had to re-watch this segment twice due to all of the face palming. They blame the debtors instead of the students taking out the loans.

The rest of it has been fantastic, though.

Yes, let's blame the students who, through their entire life heard and were sold, go to college go to college go to college. Who were told, if you don't go to college you will dig ditches your whole life.

Who were never educated any different. Who were hardly ever told about community colleges.

Students, who when taking on this debt were only perhaps 18 years of age, too young to even be considered responsible enough to drink.

Let's blame the students as the cause for the price of college to rise exponentially. Let's blame students because they know that college is required for the most basic of jobs now.

Yes, Let's blame students who only want to improve their position in life.

These students don't have parents?

No, you're right. Let's excuse people that knowingly entered into an agreement to repay debt.

so glad I didn't go to college for that very reason.
to be fair, however, I'm not a 'college' type of person. I can't think of anything that would interest me enough to spend 4 years and thousands of dollars to be qualified. I do well with learning hands-on, and something very specific.

I can't imagine these kids who have $80K+ debt with a meaningless major.
College, it seems to me (right or wrong), is almost useless unless it's something specific. Med school, Engineering, Biology, Geology, Law etc.

Different strokes for different folks. Nothing wrong with either one.
I had a blast in college, learned a lot and grew up. I can do what I do because of college but it's not the only way.
My dad told me long ago "there are many ways to get an education. One of them is to go to school."

Many of these kids get pointless degrees in things like fine art, theater, fiber art (seriously I know of someone getting that very degree)etc.... because they seem easy or that is what they enjoy. They then get out and realize no one gives two whits about that degree and then they complain about how unfair life is because no one wants to hire them and now they have to pay back loans they incurred of their own free will.

In what way are these kids in your mind responsible for any of their actions. Or is this another case of the victim mentality and they are not to blame for their debts?

I agree with the people criticizing loneiguana for his characteristically ridiculous take, but I also think there's plenty of reason to be critical of parents and schools who allow (or fail to discourage) kids who want to pursue useless degrees on borrowed money as well.

Yes. If parents won't or can't pay tuition they need to counsel their kids on the ramifications of debt, advise them to work their way through, etc.

I don't disagree. I am a vocal critic of colleges offering worthless degrees and guidance counselors of many high schools pushing kids to college whether it is the best thing for them or not (Fort Collins high schools are notorious for this). But while they are part to blame, so are the kids that pursue them. A little research goes a long way and in this internet age, kids can research stuff from a smartphone.
