Do you or did you ever change your mind?

Have you ever changed your mind about politics due to something on the internet, broadcasting or newspaper? I personally don't hold many strong beliefs. Sometimes I rather admire posters like Mad Crappper, Chiefsshrink or Frazod. I find there absolute belief in their ideals touching but scary. Anyway, have you ever changed your mind on something after reading a post here or taking part in a discussion here. And if not whats the point of D.C.

The point of DC is to keep the politics, religion and fighting off the main board. It's precursor was the romper room.

Bottom line is a quarantine ward.

Yep, all of this.

I also use DC as a testing ground for different possible pub arguments. It works great as a place to float opinions (even ridiculous ones) and see what holds water and what is easily shot down.

I will not say it was because of this forum solely but, there were plenty of arguments for the legalization of marijuana that helped in the change of my attitude towards it.

I would say the same however often while here I see both sides of issues. As in the way right and the way left. That has led me to the conclusion I relate less and less to both~

I change my mind frequently, usually due to reviewing what some really thoughtful commentators say on a subject.

The most common area is foreign policy. Fareed Zakaria has probably changed my mind more than any living commentator.

I also have a ton of respect for Matthew Yglesias, and Ezra Klein. They change my mind frequently when I find myself disagreeing with them. They're almost always in the right when I find myself disagreeing with them.

So many good writers. Juan Cole, Glenn Greenwald, Tom Ricks. There's also this phenomenal writer over at the Atlantic, Ta-Nehisi Coates, whose views on civil rights and American race relations are probably the most astute in my life, and he's changed my mind seemingly every time he posts on the subject. Conor Friedersdorf, George Packer...

Edit: The two best people on healthcare are Sarah Kliff of the Washington Post (in explaining stuff) and Aaron Carroll (in terms of pure informed debate).

I could go on. There are just so many smart people and great writers.

Precisely ! What is scary about conservatism and why is it now supposedly so awful and bad for our country ?? And the hard evidence to prove that conservatism is bad and that progressivism(a la Marxism) is better ??? When we know damn well with hard evidence that socialism in whatever form has never worked since the beginning of time??

I'll save 'bandwagonjumper' the time; there is no evidence that conservatism is bad for the country and there is ample evidence that socialism is utterly a complete failure

The more I see the more I am confirmed in my beliefs. Outside of the legalization of marijuana, I have only become more steadfast in my conservative beliefs.

With that being said, the more I see the more I find myself drifting from the people in the establishment that are supposedly representing my beliefs.

I can't remember the last time I read Fareed Zakaria and felt persuaded in the least.

Does anyone find it shocking that Direckshun has had his mind "changed" only by liberal writers? It's like me saying that I've had my mind changed by Max Boot, Ed Morrisey, Elliott Abrams, Ralph Peters, and Dick Cheney.

Well liberalism is no different than conservativism. There's a wide array of debates and discussions. It's not a binary state.

The folks I listed is a partial list of people I've found to have written some of the most compelling stuff over the past few years. Their points of view are absolutely critical to making the national dialogue the best it can be. No question.

Shrug. It happens. You read information from people who are considerably more informed than you are, you will find your beliefs change.

Happens with me on a regular basis, and thank god for it.
