Chiefs have the #1 scoring defense in football after 5 weeks

We are only allowing 11.6 points per game...even more impressive is that the second place team is NE at 14 ppg. That's a sizable lead.

Some other rankings after 5 weeks...

1st in sacks
1st in passes defensed
1st in defensive touchdowns
1st in recovered fumbles
3rd in interceptions
7th in yards allowed per game
4th in pass yards allowed per game
21st in rush yards allowed per game (Philly game skewed this one)

Translation: the defense is killin it

He might be playing well, but this franchise has priorities.

Justin Houston and Eric Berry need new contracts within two years. And very likely so will Alex Smith.

We probably can't afford him.

No. Both against Tennessee were deep balls.

The one against Dallas was a deep out or a corner route.

There's that, too.

Alex is not good outside the numbers.

Smith doesn't like throwing outside.

He just doesn't.

He can. He has the arm.

He won't though...

Terrible when compared to top QB's. The only top QB who compared is Russell Wilson I believe. His weak arm is well known.

No, no he can't. He complete less than 50% out there. He can't.

Need more proof? How many times has he been nearly picked out there already?

He can, meaning he capable. It's happened, it happened with Cassel now and again too. But it's unlikely. Not b/c he doesn't choose to, but b/c more often than not, he doesn't have what it takes to go deep.

Again, Avery had to come back to the ball. That is a testament to Avery as a receiver, not Smith as a downfield QB.

Is there a throwing chart available at PFF? I'd love to see his tendencies. Not just left, right, middle, wide left, wide right, but distance too.

Why not? I think he'll probably get a two year $7-8 million dollar deal.

He's played well in the new system and IMO, it would be silly to attempt to replace him when there are glaring holes at WR, TE, safety, guard and back up RB.
