If you would have suffixed that with "for those that didn't have health care before" I'd say you were partially right.

GOP Rep: Defunding Obamacare Is 'Off The Table'

Rep. James Lankford (R-Okla.) acknowledged Thursday the fight to defund the Affordable Care Act is over for now.

"That's currently off the table now," Lankford told CNN's Jake Tapper. "That's obviously not going to happen at this point."

The Oklahoma Republican said the GOP had shifted its focus to seeking a one-year delay of Obamacare's individual mandate.

The last offer House Republicans made on a government funding bill tied a continuing resolution to a one-year mandate delay and banning federal health care subsidies for members of Congress and their staffs. GOP leadership is still seeking those reforms, but has shifted its focus to deficit reduction talks in exchange for a six-week extension of the debt limit.

Conservatives like Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho), on the other hand, weren't as willing to concede that Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) big defund-Obamacare gambit had been a total loss. Labrador didn't specify what Obamacare concessions he hoped to get at this point, but told reporters Thursday the new debt-limit offer was a prime opportunity to refocus the budget debate around the health care law.

-- Sabrina Siddiqui
Just like I said, Obamacare is off the table. Thinking they can get a delay with the mandate is another one of their wet dreams.

High, but no chance in hell and you look like an idiot for even suggesting it, is not productive.

Rs went with the latter.
I completely disagree. The higher you start the more room you have to work with and the greater the probability you land at least at your "line in the sand" point.

Quite possible they have taken it off the table because they have figured out it will be a debacle and already distanced themselves far enough away to not pay he consequences.

Well, I disagree. A completely unreasonable starting point is useless. Probably more importantly, this is politics, so the more you have to come down from that unreasonable starting point, the more it looks like you lost.

Rs started off with essentially a repeal of Obamacare. Got their nutty base all riled up. Now, at best, they might get what--repeal of a medical device tax? You think people who were all jacked up about ACA repeal will really be happy with that?

The Rs left their nutty base with blue balls, and they'll call the Rs pussies who caved.

So you would be okay with Obama telling the House Republican Tea Party faction that if they don't pass immigration reform and put the top tier tax rate back to what it was under Eisenhower they get nothing they want. Until Obama gets his way, nothing happens? Thats the way Democracy should work?

What exactly has Obama let the republicans have to this point?

No one really cares what Obama tells anyone. They're just words.

I am addressing the main point with my question. What exactly has Obama allowed the republicans to have up to this point that would make your analogy in any way relevant?

They had a deal in place for a $988 billion package, which was about $30 billion higher from Paul Ryan's budget, to keep the government open until Boehner walked away again at the last second.

Nothing. And he shouldn't give them anything to get permission to pay the bills that they authorized.

Also, that's what happens when you make kooky unreasonable demands--you don't even get a counteroffer.

Boehner's reason for walking away?

I meant in general, not just this situation.

The majority of the people did not want Obamacare when it was passed and a majority of the people do not want it now.

The will of the people is "kooky". Spoken like a true socialist.
