Seriously though. Imagine the audacity of a federal government that says "we're closing the grand canyon."

It just makes me laugh at how silly Democrats are.

There can be opened if the states are willing to pay for it. Seems fair to me.

It would be great to make it permanent.

I'm not sure the states would agree. I have no ideas and maybe national parks are a pot of gold but I rather doubt it. If there break even its probably a good deal.

Just turn it over to private investors who can support it by selling billboard space and cable-trams everywhere. Or a group of billionaires might just buy it up and keep it to themselves.

What did the tea party think was going to happen when they tried to use the government being open and the debt ceiling to meet their demands?

Its kind of absurd when they act shocked about it afterwards. "oh crap, we didnt know that shutting down the government meant that things we like would get shut down too. Were sorry, lets try to blame the the other side as if they started this."

What bemuses me is that the executive branch doesn't get more flack for what appears pretty solidly to be an aggressive targeted effort to make sure that the shutdown is something that strikes the poor and dependent hardest.

If there's evidence that it's Cruz's or Boehner's fault that the shutdown means cancer treatment, military death benefits and WIC, more than fighter jets, aircraft carriers, and farm subsidies, please let me know.

Go ahead and fault the GOP for the shutdown, but save a little for how specifically and how cravenly it hurts.

Im sorry that people are upset that parks are closed and benefits have been stalled, but the question is are those expenditures essential for government to function. While they are important to millions of people, they dont meet that test.

I have asked this before with no reply from either side. I did not follow the previous shutdowns but on the surface it appears this administration is trying to cause as much discomfort to sway the public. Kind of like the silly white tours stunt during the last go around. Am I wrong? Were the previous shutdowns handled the same?
