My recollection was that the Clinton/Gingrich shutdown was much more bureaucratic. I don't remember 'heartstring pulling' stories like this time around, but then we didn't have the social media apparatus we do now, so it might have happened and just not gotten reported.

I think i replied before that 5 appropriations bills out of 12 (instead of zero) had been passed in 1995.

The recent vandalism of the lincoln memorial, and the specter of terrorism (continuing to allow visitors without adequate security) might have changed the calculations this time around.

From a legal liability perspective, im sure they are being advised that there is risk you are taking on by not closing them.

I missed your answer. I hardly followed politics back then. I was busy working and raising a family. I miss those days as I had an "It is America love it or leave it" mentality. I was completely blind to how our government worked and foolishly believed our government was working with our best interest in mind. I still love my country but with my eyes opened I look at both parties with disgust. Two parties and no choice~

On that note i can heartily agree.

It is past time for a third "common sense" party that is not accountable to corporations or special interest lobbies.

We just recently tried that, twice. The Tea Party was quickly swept up by corporate concerns like the Koch brothers, and is now almost entirely on the far right wing. Occupy Wall Street was even more quickly swept up by a cavalcade of left-wing fringe crazies, and is now essentially irrelevant. I hate to say it, but the concept of a moderate, common sense third party is more or less a pipe dream at this point.

This just serves as a reminder that we are living in an oppressive tyranny...one that allows people to dismantle and carry off federal govt property with no repercussions.

I heard the camps are for re-education. He's carrying off federal property. Dictator Obama will surely punish him harshly for that. I don't know what his limbs have to do with it.
