When you think of Tea Party members you think of...

Quick poll to see what you guys think of people who identify themselves as members or supporters of the Tea Party.

I forgot to make this poll public, but consider it public because when I get a chance I'll likely change the setting in the db to do so.

OK poll is now officially public.

The only thing that happened with the so called resolution is that the can was kicked down the road once again. I guess I just don't see where this is going and appreciate the fact that there is a group trying to throw a monkey wrench in the system of inevitable failure.

I think many of us would agree that those are good things. I definitely do. But the way the Tea Party has gone about it is embarrassingly retarded. Their ideas are decent. Their execution of it is Terrelle Pryor 4th & 48.

I don't have a huge problem with what the Tea Party seems to be going for other than the aforementioned social conservatism. The closest thing I can come up with off the top of my head that reflects more of what I believe is old school Barry Goldwater conservatism. I see what you mean about "kicking the can down the road."

This is a good, good start to understanding why the Tea Party will fail.

And, frankly, I was thinking more along the lines of the writing of the Declaration of Independence and (especially) the Constitution, which was only crafted after more than ten years of intense negotiation between 13 different countries who each wanted different things, and after two earlier "drafts". There originally was no Bill of Rights; it came from demands made by the states before they agreed to sign. That's the moderation and negotiation I was thinking of.

Now laugh at my dig at the Raiders. It was funny.

That was pure treason. Treason is moderate and negotiating?

Treason, against the British....yes; however, his point prevails during the actual founding of the country--countryman vs. countryman, who compromised to create a government and new Constitution (Great/Connecticut Compromise, 3/5 Compromise....and the whole big state/small state meeting in the middle.) The Tea Party seems intent on bloodshed between American citizens; ain't happening.

Incorrect. He specifically mentioned the Decelrationtion of Independence which was nothing short of high treason.

I find it hilarious that you, a leftist, are bringing up the the 3/5 Compromise. That is typically something that is brought up by leftists when debatiting the relevancy of the Constitution by those on the left who want to discredit it. And I will be the first to admit that while it is a masterful document over all, it has one or two flaws. That compromise being one of them.

So that whole allowing slavery and and only counting blacks as 3/5 a human being is now a standard for negoitiang and compromise?

Talk about moving the goal post..........................

Do those of you on the left even release just how often you contradict yourselves just to make a "winning" point?

Funny you, like some others, consider me a "leftist" now that I abhor what has happened to Reagan's Republican party....when we were once allies when conservatives weren't nutjobs, and I was cheering Reagan and ragging on Clinton and the moonbat left in the early 2001-2007 time frame. If the party hadn't gone of the deep end, they could still have us....instead we are now "RINOs."

For what it's worth, I do not subscribe to the liberal interpretation of the 3/5ths Compromise that you describe....but view it for what it was at the time: a necessary concession at a time in history which represented two steps forward, even if it was in other ways one step back. Strange take for a "leftist," eh?

BTW, go Chiefs.

It's funny to me how establishment republicans and RINOs invoke the name of Reagan and how they long to return to his brand of conservatism.

The Tea Party IS Reagan Conservatism. Reagan was the Tea Party before it existed. If you can't see that, if you don't think Reagan would be a Cruz supporter, then you have moved to the left.

This attempt at redefining the Reagan legacy is not going to go unchallenged as long as I am around.

As to the second point: negotiating the lawfulness of slavery and negotiating slaves to only be 3/5ths a person was an approach of moderation that we should strive for today? Yeah, nothing extreme in that compromise what so ever.

Some of you people are nuts.

Reagan was a skilled negotiator. He got cuts he wanted because he knew how to work the room. The new age Republicans is all talk, and no ability to execute.

And this so-called "RINO" concept... Reagan spent an astronomical amount of money on defense and ran up the debt. All in a non-isolationist foreign policy strategy where he was both spending money to compete in an arms race with Russia, while simultaneously negotiating with Gorbachev.

This whole idea that this party of absolute austerity and isolationism somehow existed recently is a complete myth. It's not possible to hold that kind of hardline position and get the kind of votes to win enough major elections, let alone to have any kind of political ability to get things done.
